But at that very moment, on the level below, Black and White Impermanence were overcome with a mix of joy and sorrow.
The joy came from finally following the familiar aura to the Yellow Springs Road. A long-held wish had been fulfilled, and their duties as underworld emissaries were complete. As for the sorrow, or whatever similar emotion it was, they couldn't quite put their finger on it. They simply felt that while they had achieved the right outcome, they had gone about it the wrong way.
The Yellow Springs Road was hidden on the eighteenth level of the Ancient Tomb Cave, behind the stone wall directly opposite the entrance. The place was utterly barren, containing almost nothing aside from a meditation cushion in the center that Bei Mingyuan occasionally used.
