Oubrian asked, "What do you plan to do about Cheris?"
Vito was silent for a moment before saying, "Nothing. Since we've already lost the chance to kill her, we'll just wait for the next one. Let's hope she can survive that one, too."
"The trials of the Douglas Clan don't stop after a single failure. Cheris didn't die this time, so she got lucky. The next time, or the time after that, there will eventually be a trial she cannot survive. Those are our rules."
...
Just as Oubrian had said, the Path to the past was not an easy one to tread.
The River of Time churned beneath Murphy's feet. Within its waters, waves spanning millennia suddenly rose. They were not water, but fragments of time, forgotten history, the wreckage of countless possibilities annihilated within the river's flow.
They collided, stirring up a raging tide hundreds of feet high that rushed toward Murphy and the Demigods.
"I will go."
