The song ended.
Yongjia reached up and gently touched the corner of her eye. To her surprise, she felt tears welling up.
The music Wei Mingqi played on his clay flute was truly beautiful.
Wei Mingqi looked up to see Yongjia, rose to his feet, and bowed. "Commandery Princess, what brings you here again? The night is deep. Please, return and rest."
Yongjia said, "I saw Tian Tian right after I left. She's still fantasizing that my Imperial Brother will take notice of her and bring her back to Chang'an City to be a Lady in his court.
She isn't devoted to you at all. Besides, she looks down on you for being born of a concubine.
With looks like hers and such a low status, what right does she have to look down on you?"
Wei Mingqi replied, "It's only natural for her to look down on me. Her interest in His Majesty is just a sign of ambition, of wanting to climb higher. Besides, I have another woman in my heart, so how can I blame her? I haven't been fair to her, either."
