The Palace Bureau.
Mu Wan Yun gazed at the stack of ledgers piled high before her, taller than a person, and felt her head spin. She had only known how to read for two years, and no one had ever taught her about account books or arithmetic.
Zhong Shanggong had Mu Wan Yun try looking through a few of the ledgers, but it was all Greek to her.
Seeing that Mu Wan Yun was completely lost, Zhong Shanggong said,
"Though you will have many housekeepers, eunuchs, and servants from the Palace Bureau to assist you in the future, you must still know some arithmetic and understand the books yourself. It's a precaution against any subordinates who might try to cause trouble."
Mu Wan Yun replied courteously, "Then I must trouble you to teach me, Zhong Shanggong."
Zhong Shanggong ordered a palace maid to fetch an abacus and began to slowly teach Mu Wan Yun how to manipulate the beads.
