For the first time, he hated his own sharp eyesight, which he'd always been proud of. The distance wasn't great, so he could clearly see the torn flesh and exposed bone beneath the four heads.
"What are you looking at?! Go call the police!"
When his mother saw her son hadn't left and had even disobeyed her by looking back, she slapped him hard on the back.
"Okay, okay, I'm going now." The man didn't dare delay any longer. His limbs feeling weak, he ran inside and dialed the number for his local police precinct.
By the time the police arrived, a crowd had already gathered around the house where the murders took place.
Everyone's face was a mixture of terror and curiosity.
They whispered amongst themselves from time to time.
"Who called it in? Please come over here." The lead officer motioned for his colleagues to cordon off the scene while the others dispersed to take statements from the onlookers.
