At the pier, the search operation in the water was still ongoing.
The search area continued to expand as lifeboats headed for deeper waters.
Night faded into dawn.
By daybreak, the search and rescue team was still empty-handed.
Wyatt Hawthorne's face was as dark as ink, his black eyes suppressing a churning hostility.
"Zane Shelby." He suddenly spun around and grabbed Zane by the collar. "Speak! Where did you hide her?!"
"Are you insane?! You're crazy!" Zane Shelby shoved him off. Having been up all night, he was in no mood for this. "When exactly did you see me hide anyone?"
Wyatt Hawthorne, however, calmed down and analyzed the situation logically. "Faye Vaughn and Liam Linden jumped into the sea together. If you hadn't arranged for a boat and crew to pick them up, there's no way I wouldn't have found them by now."
Zane Shelby sneered. "A very reasonable analysis. It's a shame, then, that I didn't arrange for any pickup."
