Faye Vaughn turned her head, grinning. "It's okay, I'm not scared."
She flicked the fishing net and cast it into the river.
Scooping fish with a net required a delicate touch, but she had no experience and just thrashed it around with brute force.
Liam Linden stood a couple of steps away, his heart in his throat as he watched her teetering unsteadily with the pole, afraid she would slip and fall into the river at any moment.
"Let me do it, okay?" he said, stepping closer and coaxing her gently. "The water is splashing and getting your clothes wet."
"There's a fish!" Faye Vaughn exclaimed, gripping the net's pole tightly and hauling it up with all her might.
At the other end of the pole was a mesh net, inside which a fat fish was flopping about wildly.
Just as Faye Vaughn was celebrating, her foot slipped on a loose stone, and she started to tumble down the bank and into the river.
With lightning-fast reflexes, Liam Linden grabbed her arm and yanked her back.
