The boy spoke. "Put me down. I can walk on my own."
Seeing the standoffish child before her, Celeste Grant felt a pang in her heart. She wrapped her arms around his small body and said softly, "Silly boy, your mother would never abandon you. You're our son. Your father and I love you more than anything. How could we ever let you go?"
The child before her was a wisp of her son's Primordial Spirit given form. So he truly was her son. She wasn't lying.
'But even if I told him the truth, he probably wouldn't believe it. Besides, I can't tell him. I'll have to find a reasonable explanation he can accept later.'
Held by the man and woman before him, the boy realized no one had ever held him so closely in his entire life. Not even his previous parents at the General's Mansion had ever embraced him like this. 'Is this the difference between real parents and... others?'
The boy lowered his head slightly.
Tears welled up in his eyes before he even realized it.
