The nights in the Southern Mountain Range were serene. A warm breeze rustled gently through the trees, and the mountain air was pleasant and temperate.
A bonfire crackled merrily, a large pot resting over the flames. The water inside had reached a rolling boil, and several large chunks of meat tumbled about, releasing an incredibly rich aroma.
The firelight flickered across Xu Luo's young, handsome face, casting it in shifting light and shadow.
The giant eagle crouched nearby. Xu Luo had already applied medicine to its wounds, and it was now staring intently at the meat in the pot.
"Hey, big eagle, don't you guys eat your meat raw? Why are you staring at what's in my pot?" Xu Luo grumbled, glancing sideways at the massive bird.
"Who'd eat raw meat when they can have it cooked?" the giant eagle retorted, its voice crisp and clear, as if stating the obvious.
