Feigning curiosity, Zhao Jing asked, "Is this all the food meant for today?"
The burly man revealed a half-smile. "What are you thinking? Look at how fierce and robust we are, and then look at yourselves, frail as plucked chickens. This amount of food might last you all a whole day, but it wouldn't even be enough for a single meal for us."
Zhao Jing quickly calculated the amount of grain in his head. Factoring in the various roasted and smoked meats, he estimated the probable number of people who would be present in the Western Regions Royal Court this noon.
Upon reaching a final number, his eyes instantly darkened. The numbers didn't add up!
The Western Regions Royal Court supposedly had a garrison of two hundred and fifty thousand soldiers. The Left Prince had taken two hundred thousand of them to lay siege to Xingtai Prefecture, but the remaining number of troops here today could absolutely not exceed six thousand.
Where had the remaining forty-odd thousand soldiers gone?
