The silence in the dungeon was pitch-black and suffocating, broken only by the steady, hollow drop of water from the vaulted stone ceiling.
Bound to the pillar by heavy, violet-glowing runic chains, Kira shifted his shoulders slightly. His face was still stained with dried blood, but his dark eyes gleamed with cold, calculating sharpness in the dark.
"Hey," Kira called out, his tone lazily breaking the silence.
Outside the heavy iron bars of the cell, two heavily armored guards—stationed to watch over the highest-value prisoner—stiffened. One of them tapped his spear against the stone floor, stepping up to the iron grates with an arrogant sneer.
"Shut your mouth, trash," the guard spat. "You're lucky the King ordered us to keep you alive until he finishes off your little estate. Speak again and I'll break your legs."
Kira paid no mind to the threat. He tilted his head downward, pointing his chin toward the complex, glowing purple lines etched intricate across the stone floor beneath his feet.
"Ah, hey... is this new magic circle below me preventing me from using mana?" Kira asked, sounding casually curious.
Hearing his question, the second guard let out a loud, mocking laugh, walking over to stand beside his partner.
"Hah! Impressive that a useless summon like you even recognizes it!" the guard boasted, puffing out his chest with immense pride. "You're looking at history, boy! This is the very first absolute Anti-Magic Array ever created in the world! His Majesty spent a fortune—thousands of high-grade mana crystals—and had the realm's greatest grand mages work for over ten long years to develop this masterpiece!"
"That's right," the first guard chimed in smugly, tapping the cell bars with his armored gauntlet
. "Once those runic vectors lock onto your mana core, no living creature in this world can channel a single drop of magic. You're completely helpless! Nothing short of a god could break out of that circle!"
They went on and on, boasting about the endless wealth, labor, and grand mage expertise that went into forging the ultimate anti-magic containment spell.
Kira listened for a few seconds, his face slowly twisting into an expression of utter boredom and irritation.
"God, you guys talk way too much," Kira interrupted, rolling his eyes in the dark. "You act like it's a gift from heaven, but there's one simple problem. Magic circles are just like electrical circuits. Every line and vector needs to stay perfectly connected to the exact corresponding node for the current to flow."
The guards blinked in confusion. "What... what nonsense are you babbling about, 'circuit'—"
Before the guard could finish his sentence, Kira set his jaw. Bypassing the pain receptors completely, he channeled pure physical, unaugmented muscle strength into his lower body. His boots dragged heavily against the rough obsidian floor.
With a raw, brutal surge of physical force, Kira drove the heel of his boot deep into the delicate runic grooves etched into the stone, dragging it across the center of the array to carve a deep, jagged new line right through the core vector.
SCREECH!
The moment the new line disrupted the geometry, the delicate balance of the array collapsed instantly. The deep purple glow flickered violently, turned a sickly, unstable red, and then vanished with a sharp, pathetic pop.
The Anti-Magic Array failed completely.
"Wh-What?!" the guards gasped, their eyes widening in sheer horror. "The magic circle... it collapsed?!"
Before either guard could open his mouth to scream for help, the air inside the dungeon turned dangerously frigid.
BOOM!
A terrifying, suffocating wave of dense, pitch-black mana erupted from Kira's body like a volcano breaking through a dam. The sheer atmospheric pressure crushed the stone floor into fine dust.
With a effortless flex of his arms, Kira snapped the massive, runic iron chains like dry twigs. CRACK! The heavy shackles shattered, raining iron fragments onto the floor.
Kira didn't waste a single millisecond. He thrust his right hand forward, his dark eyes glowing with absolute frost.
"Absolute Zero."
A blinding wave of absolute white frost roared out from his palm. Before the two guards could even process the sensation of cold, the flash-freeze hit them head-on. Their eyes froze wide in terror as solid, blue-white ice engulfed their bodies, turning them into completely frozen statues in less than a fraction of a second. The entire dungeon floor, walls, and iron bars were instantly encased in thick, sparkling ice.
< System: Mana suppression cleared! All host pathways operational! Spatial Teleportation coordinates locked on home signature! >
Kira smoothed the front of his torn, bloody coat, his expression ice-cold. "King Neptune is still on his way to my house... I'll beat him there."
A swirl of deep, dark spatial mana enveloped Kira, and with a soft whoosh, his figure vanished from the frozen vault entirely.
Home Before the Storm
Inside the grand living room of the secluded mini-mansion, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense.
It had been an agonizing thirty-six hours—a full day and a half—since Kira had walked out to investigate the underground black market, and not a single word had come back from him.
The room was in complete disarray. Lyira sat by the window, her hand gripping her weapon tightly, her eyes bloodshot from lack of sleep. Shizu was pacing back and forth across the rug, her fingers trembling as she constantly cast localized scrying spells that kept fizzling out into useless static.
Sofia sat silently on the couch, endlessly sharpening her blade, her jaw set tight, while Aoi stood like a shadow in the corner, her body tense, ready to spring into action at the slightest noise
. Marry sat on the floor, her ears twitching nervously, letting out low, anxious whimpers.
"It's been a day and a half..." Shizu said, her voice shaking with overwhelming worry, her elven ears drooping low.
"Something went horribly wrong! Kira never stays out this long without sending a shadow message! What if... what if it was a trap?!"
"We can't just keep sitting here!" Sofia slammed her whetstone onto the table, standing up with a fierce look in her eyes. "I'm going into the capital. Even if I have to turn the entire Undercroft upside down, I'm finding him!"
"No, we go together," Lyira declared, standing up from the window with cold determination. "If Kira is in danger, we tear down whoever took him."
Marry hugged her knees tight, her tail drooping. "Kira... please be okay..."
Suddenly, the center of the living room darkens. The shadows beneath the coffee table surged upward, swirling into a dense, vortex of dark spatial mana.
Every girl instantly drew her weapon, taking a defensive combat stance. "Who's there?!"
The dark vortex vanished, revealing a figure standing in the middle of the room.
Kira stood there, his hair slightly matted, his coat torn, and streaks of dried crimson blood marking his skin and clothes.
The room went dead silent. For a second, no one moved, as if they were afraid he was just a hallucination born from their exhaustion.
"Hey," Kira said softly, raising his hand in a weary greeting. "Sorry I'm late. I got a bit delayed by—"
Before he could finish his sentence, a blur of motion crossed the room.
Marry tackled him first, wrapping her arms around his waist so hard it nearly knocked the wind out of him, burying her face in his chest as loud, hysterical sobs burst from her throat. "KIRA! You idiot! You absolute idiot!"
"Kira!" Shizu dropped her staff entirely, rushing forward with tears streaming down her pale cheeks, throwing her arms around his neck and hugging him so tightly he could barely breathe. "Where were you?! We thought... we thought you were dead! Do you have any idea how terrified we were?!"
Sofia and Lyira rushed over immediately, their fierce combat postures melting away into sheer relief and overwhelming emotion.
Sofia wrapped her arms around his back, resting her forehead against his shoulder, her shoulders shaking quietly.
"You fool..." Sofia whispered, her voice cracking with emotion. "Thirty-six hours... thirty-six damn hours with zero news... don't ever do that to us again!"
Aoi stepped out from the shadows, her usual emotionless assassin mask completely shattered. She didn't say a word, but her eyes were wet with tears as she stepped in, gently wrapping her arms around Kira's arm, leaning her head against his side, gripping his torn sleeve as if holding on for dear life.
Kira stood there, surrounded by his five wives, feeling the warmth of their hugs, their tears soaking into his torn coat.
"Ah... sorry, everyone," Kira murmured gently, a rare, genuine softness entering his voice as he wrapped his arms around them, holding them close. "I really am sorry for making you worry so much."
"Look at you! You're covered in blood!" Shizu sobbed, pulling back slightly, her hands glowing with bright green healing magic as she began desperately checking his torn coat and chest for wounds. "Who did this to you?! What happened?!"
"I'm fine, Shizu. The wounds are already closed," Kira reassured her softly, patting her head.
His eyes then darkened slightly, turning cold and sharp as he looked toward the front entrance of the mansion.
Deep within the shadows surrounding the house, he could feel Alaska—his Divine Shadow Wolf—silently growling, alerting him to a massive, hostile mana signature rapidly approaching their territory.
King Neptune and his royal strike force were almost here.
"Listen to me," Kira said, his voice instantly turning serious and steady as he looked at his five wives. "The King himself... Neptune... was behind the syndicate hunting the shadow beasts. He locked me up in a underground vault, thinking he could break me. And right now... he's on his way here with his elite forces, believing I'm still chained in his dungeon, expecting to find you all completely defenseless."
The girls froze, the tears in their eyes instantly hardening into sharp, lethal fury.
Shizu wiped her tears away, her elven magic flaring up with terrifying intensity around her staff. "The King..."
Aoi's eyes turned dead cold, her daggers sliding smoothly into her hands. "He came to harm our home."
Sofia gripped her blade, a dark, vicious smile spreading across her lips. "He picked the wrong house to ambush."
Kira looked at them, a dangerous, confident smirk gracing his lips as he stroked Marry's head, feeling the raw, divine strength of Alaska pulsing powerfully from the shadows outside.
"Let's go welcome our King," Kira whispered.
To be continued...
