đŠ¸đŞ˝ DARK ARCHANGEL
Episode 5:
The Trial That Shattered Heaven
The sky did not crack.
It opened.
Seo Jun felt it before he saw itâa pressure that pushed down on his chest, stealing breath from his lungs, bending the world around them as if reality itself was bowing.
The rooftop trembled beneath their feet.
Azael's wings expanded fully, no longer hidden, no longer restrained. They unfurled in a rush of shadow and wind, vast and terrifyingly beautiful, blotting out the fading sunset.
Jun stared.
He had known, logically, that Azael was an angelâsomething more. But seeing the wings like this, feeling the weight of divine power crash over him, made the truth sink in painfully deep.
Azael was not meant to be here.
Not with him.
"AzaelâŚ" Jun whispered.
Azael turned to him, eyes burning silver, filled with conflict and fear and something achingly tender. He cupped Jun's face with both hands, grounding himself in the warmth of living skin.
"Listen to me," Azael said urgently. "Whatever happens nextâdo not be afraid."
Jun laughed weakly. "That's easy for you to say."
Azael pressed his forehead to Jun's. "I will not let them hurt you."
Jun's voice shook. "You can't promise that."
"I can," Azael said, fierce and absolute. "Even if it costs me everything."
Before Jun could respond, light descended.
Not gentle light. Not comforting light.
This light was sharp and cold and judging.
Golden sigils burned into the air around them, spinning in complex patterns Jun couldn't understand but instinctively feared. Chains of light formed, wrapping around Azael's wrists and wings, pulling tight.
"Azael!" Jun cried, grabbing for him.
The moment Jun touched the chains, pain exploded through his body. He screamed, stumbling back.
Azael roared.
The sound shook the city.
"DO NOT TOUCH HIM," Azael thundered, wings flaring violently. The chains strained but did not break.
From the light stepped three figures.
Angels.
Not like Azael.
They were pristine, flawless, terrifying in their symmetry. White wings without a single scar. Faces calm and emotionless. Eyes like polished gold.
The one in the center spoke.
"Archangel Azael. By order of the Throne, you are to return to Heaven immediately."
Jun staggered to his feet. "Waitâpleaseâhe didn't do anything wrong!"
The angel's gaze flicked to Jun, dismissive and cold.
"The human is irrelevant."
Azael's wings snapped forward protectively despite the chains. "He is everything."
That was when the chains tightened.
Azael gritted his teeth, pain ripping through his body, but he did not cry out. His eyes never left Jun's face.
"I'm sorry," Jun whispered, tears streaming. "I'm so sorryâthis is my faultâ"
"No," Azael said softly. "This is Heaven's."
The angels raised their hands.
Light swallowed Azael whole.
Jun screamed his name as the world collapsed into silence.
Heaven was blinding.
Jun couldn't see at firstâonly feel.
Cold marble beneath his feet. Air so thin it burned his lungs. A presence so vast and overwhelming that his knees nearly buckled.
When his vision cleared, he realized he was standing in a court.
A celestial hall stretched endlessly in every direction, pillars of light rising like spears into a sky that glowed white instead of blue. Countless angels lined the space, silent and still, watching.
At the center knelt Azael.
His wings were bound tightly behind him, feathers dulled, edges darkened as if scorched. His head was bowedânot in submission, but restraint.
Jun ran to him.
The moment he crossed the boundary, pain lanced through his body, forcing him to the ground.
Azael's head snapped up. "Jun!"
"I'm okay," Jun gasped, forcing himself upright. "I'm here."
A murmur rippled through the angels.
"A human," one voice whispered.
"He brought a human here."
"Blasphemy."
A thunderous voice echoed from above.
"ARCHANGEL AZAEL."
The Throne revealed itself.
A massive construct of light and fire, shifting constantly, too vast to look at directly for long. Power radiated from it, pressing down like gravity.
"YOU STAND ACCUSED."
Azael lifted his head. His voice was calm.
"I know."
"YOU DESCENDED WITHOUT PERMISSION."
"YOU INTERFERED WITH HUMAN FATE."
"YOU FORMED AN EMOTIONAL BOND."
The light intensified.
"YOU LOVED."
The word was spoken like a curse.
Jun stood shaking, rage and fear warring inside him. "Is that really a crime?"
Silence fell.
Every angel turned to look at him.
The Throne spoke again, colder now.
"LOVE IS A HUMAN WEAKNESS."
Jun clenched his fists. "Then why does he feel it better than any of you?"
Azael's breath hitched.
The angels stirred uneasily.
"SILENCE," the Throne commanded.
Jun swallowed hard but didn't back down. "You made him watch humanity. You made him protect us. And now you're punishing him for caring?"
Azael whispered, "Jun⌠please."
Jun turned to him, eyes wet. "I won't let them pretend this is wrong."
The Throne's light sharpened.
"THE SENTENCE HAS BEEN DECIDED."
The chains around Azael ignited.
Azael cried out as pain tore through him, wings convulsing violently.
Jun screamed. "STOP!"
"AZAEL WILL BE STRIPPED OF HIS GRACE."
"HIS WINGS WILL BE MARKED."
"HIS NAME WILL BE ERASED."
Jun ran forward despite the pain, throwing himself in front of Azael.
"Then take me too!" Jun shouted. "If loving me is a sin, then punish me instead!"
Azael's eyes widened in horror. "Noâ!"
The Throne paused.
For the first time, uncertainty rippled through Heaven.
"THE HUMAN OFFERS HIMSELF."
Jun stood shaking but determined. "I love him. If that makes me guilty, then I accept it."
Azael's voice broke. "Jun⌠you don't understand what you're asking."
Jun turned to him, tears spilling freely now. "I understand enough. I've been alone my whole life. He chose me. I won't let you take that away."
The Throne spoke slowly.
"THEN WATCH."
Light erupted.
Azael screamed.
His wings burnedânot with fire, but with loss. White feathers blackened, curling and falling like ash. Horns tore through his skull as power twisted violently, reshaping him.
Jun sobbed, clutching his chest as if the pain were his own.
When the light faded, Azael collapsed.
No longer radiant.
No longer whole.
Dark wings lay shattered behind him. His grace was goneâreplaced with something raw and dangerous.
A fallen archangel.
Jun crawled to him, ignoring the pain, gathering Azael into his arms.
"I'm here," Jun whispered desperately. "I'm here. I won't leave."
Azael clutched him weakly. "You should have run."
Jun shook his head. "I choose you."
The Throne's voice rang final and merciless.
"LET THE FALL COMMENCE."
The floor vanished.
Jun screamed as gravity took them both.
Azael wrapped his broken wings around Jun, shielding him instinctively as they plummeted.
"If we survive this," Jun cried through the rushing wind, "stay with me."
Azael pressed his lips to Jun's forehead, voice steady despite the terror.
"I will find you," he vowed. "In every lifetime. In every world."
The sky swallowed them.
Heaven closed its gates.
And the legend of the Dark Archangel was born.
