Chapter 16 - divorce

The next morning, Ved was getting ready—because today, he was going to Kashvi.

Today, Kashvi was leaving his life forever.

The contract wife he had once trapped in a loveless marriage was finally breaking that contract. Legally. Permanently. Divorce papers. Clean cut.

Then why did it feel like something inside his chest was tightening?

He hated Kashvi… didn't he?

He had wanted to ruin her life—and he had succeeded.

He had destroyed her world.

He had taken her child from her.

Yes, it had happened in rage. In intoxication. In blind anger.

But anger didn't change the truth—he had shattered a woman's entire existence.

At least she's not that helpless woman anymore, Ved thought bitterly.

She doesn't cry in corners now. She's strong. Independent.

But then another thought clawed at him.

Krish… what is he doing in her life? Is she divorcing me to marry him?

The idea burned more than it should have.

On the other side of the city, Kashvi was ready too—divorce papers neatly arranged, signatures already in place.

Yet her hands trembled.

Ved is coming, her heart pounded.

What if he sees Kriday? What will I say?

No one knew the truth.

No one knew that Kriday was Ved Oberoi's son.

If Ved finds out…

If he takes Kriday away from me…

Her breath hitched.

I can't live without my child.

A knock echoed.

Ved had arrived.

Kashvi opened the door.

Ved's sharp eyes immediately scanned the room—searching, confirming, suspecting. He wanted proof. Proof that Kashvi and Krish were living together.

But Krish wasn't there.

For a brief, unwanted second… Ved felt relief.

"Come in, Ved. Sit down. Make yourself comfortable. I'll bring you some water," Kashvi said calmly.

"No need," Ved replied coldly.

She gave a faint, sarcastic smile and placed the divorce papers in front of him.

Her signature was already there.

Ved stared at the papers.

His hand trembled as he held the pen.

He hesitated.

His fingers shook—but he had to do this.

"What happened, Ved Oberoi?" Kashvi taunted softly. "Sign it and finish it."

Just then—

"Mummaa, I'm here ".

Kriday ran in and hugged Kashvi tightly.

Her blood ran cold.

"What"?

The word Mumma echoed in the room.

The pen slipped from Ved's fingers and hit the floor.

His world froze.

"M-mummaa?" he whispered, his voice breaking.

Kashvi's lips parted, panic flooding her face. "V-Ved—"

Before she could explain, another voice cut through the silence.

"Mr. Oberoi, he is my son." krish said .

Ved felt like the ground had vanished beneath his feet.

So… Kashvi and Krish have a child together?

His eyes burned, but he forced himself to stay composed.

He crouched slightly in front of Kriday.

"What's your name, beta?" Ved asked softly. "And how old are you?"

"Uncle, my name is Kriday," the boy smiled innocently, "and I'm fou—".

"Three," Kashvi interrupted sharply. "Kriday is three years old."

That was it.

Ved didn't think.

Didn't question.

Didn't hesitate.

He grabbed the pen and signed the divorce papers in a fit of rage.

Kashvi picked them up calmly.

"We'll meet in court, Mr. Oberoi," she said coldly.

"And… wishing you a very happy married life with Anvi Malhotra."

Her lips curved into a bitter smile.

"Now you can finally marry your true love. The obstacle in your path—your contract wife—is gone."

The moment Anvi's name left her mouth, something snapped inside Ved.

Without a word, with eyes heavy and burning, he turned and walked away.

Leaving behind signatures, silence…

and a truth still buried in blood.
