Chapter 54
Kael's POV
Everyone had stepped outside after hearing the commotion, including me. Fear gripped my chest the moment I realized Tori had been gone for far too long and I had not even noticed her absence.
The thought alone made my stomach twist painfully because I knew I would never forgive myself if something terrible had happened to her while I sat comfortably inside. I might forgive myself later on though.
My steps slowed the moment the scene came into view.
Riven stood in the middle of the courtyard with blood dripping steadily from his sword while the bodies of three men lay scattered across the ground.
Their heads had been separated from their bodies, and judging by the horrified expressions on the faces surrounding us, everyone had witnessed exactly what happened.
My gaze immediately searched for Tori.
She stood several feet away from him, her arms wrapped tightly around herself as if she were trying to hold herself together.
