I placed my bag beside my desk and sat down.
The classroom was already filled with chatter.
Students laughed, copied homework, and talked about their weekends.
"Morning, Cody."
I looked up.
Kira smiled as she took her seat beside me.
"...Morning."
A moment later, Mia walked into the classroom and greeted a few classmates before sitting near the window.
She glanced in my direction and gave me a small smile.
I nodded back.
Before anyone could start another conversation, the classroom door slid open.
Our homeroom teacher stepped inside.
"Good morning, everyone."
The room quickly became quiet.
"I have an announcement."
Curious voices spread through the classroom.
The teacher smiled.
"Next week, Class A will be going on a three-day camping trip."
For a second...
The room was silent.
Then—
"Seriously?!"
"No way!"
"Let's go!"
Excited voices filled the classroom.
John jumped out of his seat.
"A camping trip? This is going to be awesome!"
Mila laughed.
"Just don't get us lost."
"I make no promises."
The class laughed.
The teacher raised a hand.
"There will be hiking, team activities, and a campfire on the last night. Cabin groups will be announced tomorrow."
Immediately, everyone started guessing who they'd be paired with.
As the classroom buzzed with excitement, I glanced toward Kira.
She was smiling.
But after yesterday...
I couldn't help wondering if that smile was real.
