Dawn crept through the tall windows of the Serpent's Coil suite in pale gold streaks, softening the moonlight's cold silver into warm amber. The room still carried the heavy scent of last night—sweat, musk, sex, and the faint metallic tang of Kaelith's claws on torn sheets. The massive four-poster bed was a battlefield of rumpled crimson linen and shredded fabric; the blankets lay in a heap at the foot where they'd been kicked aside in the frenzy.
Alex woke first, body heavy with satisfied exhaustion but mind already sharp. He lay on his back, one arm flung across the pillows, the other curled possessively around Kaelith's waist. She slept sprawled against his side, face buried in the crook of his neck, one powerful leg thrown over his thigh, thick tail draped lazily across his hips like a living rope. Her breathing was deep, steady rumbles in her chest; black-tipped ears twitched occasionally at distant city sounds drifting up from the streets below.
Mara curled on Kaelith's other side, smaller frame pressed tight to the beastkin's back, one arm wrapped around her waist, fingers splayed over the taut muscle of her abdomen. Mara's auburn braid had come half-undone in the night; loose strands clung to Kaelith's tawny fur. Even in sleep, Mara's lips curved in that faint, manic smile, as though her dreams were still full of devotion and delight.
Alex shifted carefully. Kaelith stirred with a low growl, ears flicking, but didn't wake fully. He pressed a kiss to her temple, almost tender then eased out from under her arm and tail. She grumbled, rolled onto her stomach, and buried her face deeper into the pillow, tail thumping once in sleepy protest.
He stood, stretched, feeling the pleasant ache of last night's exertions in every muscle. Scratches from Kaelith's claws striped his back, thin red lines already scabbing over. He grinned at the mirror across the room. Marks of ownership. Good.
While Mara and Kaelith still slept, Alex crossed to the small table by the window where he'd left the few items he'd gathered since arriving in Eldoria: the longsword, a battered leather pouch, and a crumpled parchment he'd bought from a street vendor the previous afternoon for two coppers. The parchment was a rough adventurer's guide hand-scrawled, ink-smudged, and sold to newcomers who looked like they had coin and no sense.
He unfolded it now, eyes scanning the section he'd marked with a torn corner.
The Great Labyrinth of Eldoria Beneath the eastern wall lies the oldest dungeon in the known realms. Floors descend endlessly, each deeper level more dangerous, more rewarding. Monsters spawn in endless waves; kill them and they dissolve into sparks, leaving behind loot: coins, pelts, weapons, potions, rare crystals, or enchanted gear. The deeper you go, the better the drops. Floor 1: goblins, giant rats, weak wolves. Floor 5+: orcs, undead, elementals. Boss chambers every ten floors—massive creatures guarding chests of true treasure. Safe zones marked by blue runes—no spawns, rest and heal. Exit stones on every floor if you need to flee. Warning: The Labyrinth feeds on greed. Many enter rich and leave as bones. Go prepared. Go in groups. Go deep.
Alex had asked the vendor about it while buying breakfast pastries. The old man had grinned toothlessly. "Everyone talks about it, lad. The Labyrinth's why half the city's rich and the other half's dead. Kill, loot, get stronger—simple as that. But it don't care who you are. It'll eat you same as the next fool."
That was all Alex needed to hear. Power he already had, strength, fire, and instinct. What he lacked was coin. The Labyrinth promised both: monsters to slaughter, loot to sell, gold to stack. Enough to buy better weapons, armor, maybe another girl to warm the bed and fight beside them. Enough to build something real in this world.
Mara's eyes fluttered open next. She blinked twice then that delirious smile bloomed full and bright. She stretched like a cat, arching her back, breasts pressing against Kaelith's side.
"Morning", she whispered, voice still husky. She leaned over and pressed a soft kiss to the shell of Kaelith's ear. The beastkin's tail flicked lazily in response.
Alex folded the parchment and tucked it into his belt. "Wake her. We're going to the Labyrinth."
Mara's smile widened to manic glee. She nuzzled Kaelith's neck. "Time to hunt, pretty bitch."
Kaelith's amber eyes snapped open. She lifted her head, ears swiveling, and nostrils flaring as she scented the room, Alex's arousal lingering, Mara's sweet warmth, and the promise of violence on the air. Her lips curled in that familiar snarl-grin.
"Labyrinth?" she rasped, voice rough from screaming his title half the night.
Alex nodded. "First floor. Goblins, rats, maybe wolves. Easy coin and loot drops, things like coins, pelts, and weapons. The deeper floors get better: orcs, undead, and elementals. Boss rooms every ten levels with rare treasure. The city's built around it—adventurers go in, come out rich or not at all. I heard about it from a street vendor yesterday. Bought a map guide for two coppers. It's how people here make real money fast. We kill, we loot, and we sell."
Kaelith rolled onto her back, stretching powerful arms overhead. The motion pulled the torn remnants of her rags tight across her heavy breasts; dawn light made her tawny fur shimmer. "Haven't fought free in months," she said. "Let's see if you're worth bleeding for, master."
Alex tossed her a bundle from the corner leather bracers, a simple iron-studded belt, and sturdy boots Veyra had included in the sale. "Gear up. We leave in twenty."
Kaelith caught the bundle one-handed, rose fluidly, and began strapping the pieces on. Mara helped, fingers lingering on Kaelith's hips, tracing the curve of her ass, pressing soft kisses to the back of her neck while she worked the buckles. Kaelith growled low but didn't push her away.
Breakfast arrived on a tray, fresh bread, cheese, smoked meat, and strong tea. They ate quickly, standing around the small table. Kaelith tore into the meat with sharp teeth, tail swishing. Mara fed her bites between kisses, manic smile never fading.
Alex watched them, satisfaction curling in his chest. His pack and His women. Ready to fight. Ready to fuck. Ready to earn.
They descended to the streets as the city woke. Eldoria's lower ward already hummed, merchants opening stalls, adventurers heading toward the labyrinth gates with weapons slung over shoulders. The massive stone archway loomed at the city's eastern edge: black iron gates flanked by torch-bearing guards, a steady stream of parties disappearing into the shadowed maw beyond.
Alex paid the entry toll, ten silvers for three and they stepped through.
The first floor opened into a wide cavern lit by glowing fungi along the walls. Damp stone underfoot, the air cool and earthy. Distant skittering echoed—rats, maybe goblins. Torches flickered in wall sconces; safe zones marked by glowing blue runes on the floor where parties could rest without monsters spawning.
Kaelith's ears swiveled, nostrils flaring. "I smell them," she growled. "Goblins small and weak"
Alex drew his longsword, the same one that had started as his first weapon in Willowbrook, now gleaming with use. "First test. Show me what you can do."
A pack of six goblins burst from a side tunnel—scrawny, green-skinned, jagged blades in hand, yellow eyes glinting. They chittered and charged.
Kaelith moved first.
She exploded forward tail lashing, muscles coiling and releasing like springs. She slammed into the lead goblin shoulder-first, sending it flying into the wall with a crunch. Before it slid down, she was already spinning, claws extended, raking across the throat of the next. Blood sprayed. The goblin gurgled and dropped.
Alex stepped in beside her, sword flashing. He cleaved through a goblin's crude spear, then drove the blade into its chest. It crumpled.
Mara stayed back, hands glowing with faint green light which she told Alex that she'd picked up from some village hedge-witch. She hurled small bursts of healing energy when either of them took a scratch, nothing major yet.
Kaelith fought like a storm.
She was brutal, efficient, beautiful in her savagery. She grabbed a goblin by the throat, lifted it one-handed, slammed it into the stone floor hard enough to crack bone, then stomped its skull flat. Another leaped onto her back; she reached over her shoulder, seized it by the neck, and flung it into two more, bowling them over. Her tail whipped around, cracking like a lash across a goblin's face, stunning it long enough for her to drive claws into its gut and rip upward.
Within thirty seconds the pack was dead their bodies strewn, blood pooling on stone.
Kaelith stood in the center, chest heaving, claws dripping red. Her torn rags hung in even fewer pieces now; dawn light and torchlight played across sweat-slick tawny skin and fur. She licked blood from her lips slowly, amber eyes locking on Alex.
"That all?" she panted, tail lashing.
Alex stepped close, grabbed her by the collar, yanked her into a hard kiss. She growled into his mouth, claws digging into his shoulders, but kissed back fiercely, tasting of copper and heat.
"Good girl," he murmured against her lips. "Very good."
Mara rushed forward, pressing herself against Kaelith's side, kissing her neck, her jaw. "So strong… so perfect…"
Kaelith's ears flicked. She allowed the affection, tail curling around Mara's waist, pulling her closer.
Alex crouched, rifling through goblin corpses. Copper coins, a few silver, rusted daggers, a pouch of weak healing herbs. Not much but a start.
"First haul," he said, pocketing it. "Deeper floors will be better. Boss rooms drop rare shit like weapons, armor, and mana crystals. It will be enough to buy real gear… and maybe another girl."
Kaelith's grin widened, sharp canines flashing. "Then let's go deeper, master. I want to kill more. Bleed more. Fuck more when we get back."
Alex stood, sword still dripping. "Next tunnel. Stay close and watch each other's backs."
Mara nodded eagerly. Kaelith cracked her knuckles, tail swishing.
They moved deeper into the labyrinth—pack tight, ready for whatever waited below.
