A Queen Among Pawns
Now Bianca turned her chair slightly toward him.
Her movement was slow and unhurried, but the faint fatigue in her eyes betrayed how long she had been sitting there.
The office was quiet.
Outside the tall windows, the lights of Valemont shimmered beneath the night sky. Cars moved along the distant roads like thin streams of light, while the glow from countless buildings painted the glass with pale reflections.
Bianca De Dominicis rested one arm against the side of her chair.
Her long red hair fell over her shoulder, catching the warm light of the office lamps. Her red eyes, usually sharp enough to make people uncomfortable, softened when they settled on Shera.
Her expression softened.
"Shera, did Julian say anything to you?"
She turned her head to Shera, who was standing by, and asked with a smile.
Shera remained straight-backed beside the desk.
The black-haired man had barely moved since arriving.
