The door clicked shut. The room felt smaller without him in it, and somehow louder.
Kael steered me gently toward the bed and sat beside me. His hands came up to my neck, carefullly tilting my chin back slightly to examine the bruising. His frown deepened the longer he looked.
His fingers were gentle. His expression was not.
