Chapter 243 - You are my older brother

At the mountain cemetery, the burial and farewell ceremony proceeded smoothly. Duan Yiheng waved, signaling Uncle Deng to leave with his men.

Uncle Deng glanced at Duan Yiheng, then at Duan Zheng, before finally turning and leaving. It was time for father and son to reconcile. "Uncle Deng," Duan Yiheng suddenly called out. Uncle Deng turned around and asked, "Is there anything else you need?" Duan Yiheng said,

"Chen Jingyi went missing a while ago. She and Lin Xi have always been at odds, and now she's showing signs of mental instability. She's probably the one who kidnapped Lin Xi. Go down the mountain to the police station immediately." Uncle Deng: "Okay, I'll go right now."

After saying that, Duan Yiheng handed Duan Zheng a cigarette and called out, "Dad." Duan Zheng was slightly taken aback: "You haven't called me in a long time." Duan Yiheng stared at the tombstone and said, "Grandpa is gone. No matter what, you're still my dad."

Duan Zheng was slightly moved, laughed, and said, "I thought you'd never forgive me in this lifetime." "I asked you to come back for the funeral; don't you know the meaning behind it?" Duan Yiheng said. Duan Zheng genuinely didn't know and asked, "Isn't it because of your grandfather?"

"Grandpa has severed ties with you. If I don't let you participate, no one can say anything." Duan Zheng frowned. "Then why are you letting me participate?" "I told you, you're my father."

Duan Yiheng said, "What are your plans for the future? If you need money, tell me." Duan Zheng hadn't expected Duan Yiheng to say these things. He glanced at him out of the corner of his eye and moved his lips. Duan Yiheng waited quietly, his gaze unfathomable.

Having finished half a cigarette, Duan Zheng didn't notice his trembling hand, a result of anxious frustration and despair. But he still had to deal with Duan Zheng. Since Duan Zheng's return, he had tried to say something to him several times, but couldn't bring himself to speak.

Duan Yiheng saw this and guessed what he wanted to say, but pretended not to. But now, he needed Duan Zheng to speak first; he couldn't let Duan Zheng notice anything amiss.

Duan Zheng had feelings about Duan Yiheng's words, especially after experiencing the death of a loved one. He thought that Duan Yiheng, like him, had suddenly become more open-minded about many things. "I'm going to Canada to be with Anqi as she grows up." Duan Yiheng nodded. "What about Ke Yu?"

Duan Zheng suddenly snapped out of his reverie and said to Duan Yiheng, "You stayed behind to test me. Is Ke Yu involved in Lin Xi's kidnapping?" Everything was going according to Duan Yiheng's plan. Duan Yiheng turned to face Duan Zheng. "Shouldn't I be suspicious?

If it's her, you can call her directly. I'll pay whatever it takes. But if she harms Lin Xi, I'll make her pay. Escaping the country won't help." Duan Zheng frowned.

"Impossible. She knew I was back and planned to leave with me this time. The reason she stayed is to deal with the Zheng family's affairs." "It's best if it's not her."

Duan Yiheng said, "She has a daughter. She can't afford to waste time with me. It seems more likely that Chen Jingyi kidnapped Lin Xi. She's gone mad." "I may not have cared about Lin Xi, but I never wanted her dead," Duan Zheng said.

His first thought about Lin Xi being kidnapped was Ke Yu. He called Ke Yu from the car; she was waiting for him at Lan Yue Manor. He didn't believe it at first, so he asked Ke Yu to send a video. She was indeed at Lan Yue Manor, so Duan Zheng was certain: Lin Xi wasn't kidnapped by Ke Yu.

Duan Yiheng nodded: "Grandpa left a will before he passed away. If you come back, you can still get a portion of his assets. You're going abroad now, so I'll convert the money for you, but you'll have to wait a few more days. I need to go find Lin Xi now."

Duan Yiheng finished speaking and left. Duan Zheng hesitated, then called out to him: "Yiheng." Duan Yiheng suddenly stopped, his expression subtly ruthless. When he turned around, his face was full of doubt: "Is there something else?"

"Could you…" Duan Zheng's expression was pleading, "Could you let An Qi pay respects to your grandfather?" Sure enough! Duan Yiheng breathed a sigh of relief. He had guessed it; Duan Zheng had taken An Qi back to the country without Ke Yu's knowledge.

He hesitated to speak to me a few days ago, probably because he was afraid I wouldn't agree to Anqi appearing at the funeral. If Lin Xi hadn't been kidnapped, Duan Zheng might have already spoken up. Duan Yiheng frowned: "Isn't Anqi in Canada?" Duan Zheng chuckled:

"I brought her back. He was her grandfather, after all. Now that he's passed away, Anqi probably won't come back again. I wanted her to pay her respects." Duan Yiheng hesitated: "Grandpa never mentioned her before he died. I don't know his attitude."

"Yiheng, I'm begging you," Duan Zheng said. "Your grandfather won't blame you. Anqi and I really won't come back again. This is the last time." Duan Yiheng was still hesitant. Duan Zheng added: "It really is just a quick visit. We'll leave after that."

Duan Yiheng seemed convinced and said: "Go pick her up yourself. I'll pretend I don't know anything. I'm leaving now." "No need," Duan Zheng quickly stopped him. "I've had Anqi brought over. She's waiting at the foot of the mountain."

Given the old man's status and position, many tomb raiders would assume he had a large number of valuable burial items. Therefore, Duan Yiheng had people guarding the tomb. Anqi couldn't possibly visit secretly. Duan Zheng had no choice but to confront Duan Yiheng about this. "Okay."

Duan Yiheng looked at Duan Zheng. "Have someone bring her up. I'll be leaving now." "Thank you," Duan Zheng said sincerely. Duan Yiheng strode down the steps, took out his phone, and called the bodyguard waiting in the car: "Have you seen her?" Bodyguard:

"A black Range Rover is coming." Duan Yiheng said, "Confirm the number of people." The Range Rover stopped in front of the cemetery steps. The bodyguard looked over and said, "Two bodyguards and a driver." "Have you seen Anqi?"

A little girl in a black dress was taken out of the back seat. Bodyguard: "Yes." Duan Yiheng said, "After confirming, stop her." "Yes, sir." Duan Yiheng hung up the phone and descended the hundred-odd steps in one breath.

Upon reaching the cemetery entrance, four bodyguards guarded the four gates, while Duan Zheng's men, handcuffed, gagged, and bound, were thrown into the car. The bodyguard at the back gate saw Duan Yiheng and immediately opened the car door.

After he got into the car, one person went to the passenger seat, one to the driver's seat, and another sat next to Anqi. The bodyguard who had opened the door for him stayed behind to deal with Duan Zheng. Anqi looked at the bodyguard, then at Duan Yiheng sitting opposite her, and boldly asked:

"You're my older brother?" Duan Yiheng looked at her and asked, "Do you know what your mother did?" Anqi shook her head: "My mother doesn't know I'm back in the country." Duan Yiheng showed Anqi a photo of Lin Xi on his phone and asked her, "Do you recognize her?"

Anqi opened her mouth in surprise: "Yes, I've met this woman before." Duan Yiheng said, "She's my fiancée, and she was kidnapped by your mother." Anqi pouted, on the verge of tears: "Really?" Duan Yiheng nodded:

"So I have to take you away temporarily. Can you contact your mother?" Anqi shook her wrist: "I have a watch." Duan Yiheng gestured for her to take it off, and Anqi obediently took it off. Duan Yiheng took it and tossed it directly to the bodyguard, who threw it out of the car. "It has a GPS tracker, right?" Duan Yiheng asked. Anqi nodded. "I turned off my watch when I came. Dad said we were coming to pay respects to Grandpa, and Mom shouldn't know." Duan Yiheng's car headed down the mountain. He handed Anqi the phone he had prepared and said, "Now, call your mom."
