Chapter 233 - I like you

Four dishes and a soup were a bit too much for two people, especially with two bodyguards diligently standing guard outside. Lin Xi simply invited them in to eat with her. The old lady teased Lin Xi, "Does Yi Heng treat you like a fragile thing?

And you put on airs here?" "Grandma, he's just doing this in case," Lin Xi said, speaking up for Duan Yi Heng. "I can't make a scene while he's busy, can I? It'll be fine in a while." "One is willing to give, the other is willing to receive, it's none of my business."

The old lady laughed, "But I'm a little flattered that you came here so suddenly today." Lin Xi was amused, "Grandma, please don't tease me. I just came to chat with you today. If you give me the shares, a simple thank you wouldn't be enough."

However, Duan Yi Heng and she needed those shares, and the old lady had clearly stated it was a betrothal gift, so she really couldn't refuse. The old lady patted Lin Xi's hand:

"Don't feel pressured. It was originally Yi Heng's mother's property, meant for Yi Heng. After you marry Yi Heng, his will naturally be yours too. Don't belittle yourself." "Grandma, I know," Lin Xi said, somewhat moved.

She was both unfortunate and fortunate. The old lady continued, "I've talked to your grandfather at least ten times about you and Yi Heng. He's such a stubborn old man." Lin Xi looked at the old lady in surprise: "I didn't know." The old lady said,

"Yi Heng knows. I just spend time with him every day, having tea and chatting. He probably got annoyed with me, which is why he agreed to you two being together." Lin Xi chuckled: "Grandma, you're amazing." The old lady was pleased and laughed continuously.

Because Duan Yi Heng said he would pick her up, Lin Xi didn't rush to leave. At ten o'clock that night, she suddenly received a text message from Duan Yi Heng: Call me in half an hour. Lin Xi didn't understand, but she did as she was told. The old lady, however, observed everything, sitting to the side and simply watching the drama unfold.

As soon as the call connected, Duan Yiheng interrupted, "Honey, what's wrong? Not feeling well? Okay, I'll be right back." With that, Duan Yiheng covered the phone and bid farewell to the group of seasoned men in the private room. Lin Xi heard Zhao Hongbo's voice: "Mr. Duan, why are you leaving?

At least finish this drink." Duan Yiheng said, "Alright, consider this apologetic to everyone." Someone joked, "Old Zhao, just let him go. Who here hasn't been married? Only Mr. Duan is left. It's only right to pamper him before the wedding, isn't it?"

Duan Yiheng smiled politely, "You understand me best. Then I'll excuse myself." The other end of the phone was noisy, but after a few minutes, it suddenly fell silent. Lin Xi heard Duan Yiheng exhale heavily and ask, "Baby, are you still there?"

Lin Xi slightly covered her phone: "Have you been drinking?" Duan Yiheng hummed in agreement: "I couldn't get away. Are you still at Grandma's?" "Yeah, didn't you say you were coming to pick me up?"

Lin Xi complained softly, "Mr. Duan is clearly drunk now, is he still coming?" "Driver, hang up, I'm coming right now." Lin Xi hung up the phone and noticed her grandmother's gossipy expression: "Is Yiheng coming?" Lin Xi nodded shyly:

"He's coming." "Oh my, you young people are so lovey-dovey." Lin Xi: "..." She seriously suspected that her grandmother had overheard Duan Yiheng's nickname for her. Seeing that Lin Xi was about to disappear into the ground, the grandmother finally let her go:

"I'm not kidding anymore, come on, I'll go with you to the yard to wait." Duan Yiheng arrived at the alley entrance half an hour later, but it wasn't him who came, it was the driver. Lin Xi turned to say goodbye to the old lady, and only after getting into the car did she realize why he hadn't gotten off—he was already asleep.

The driver explained, "Today I went to maintain relationships with old clients, visiting three different places. I had lunch on the high-speed train, didn't get back to the company until 3 PM, and then went straight to a meeting. In the evening, Chairman Zhao dragged me to a business dinner, and I couldn't get out of it."

Lin Xi turned to look at Duan Yiheng and said to the driver, "Let him sleep since he just fell asleep; it'll allow us to take a longer route." The driver replied, "Okay." The bodyguard followed in Lin Xi's car. After driving down a street, the bodyguard suddenly contacted the car in front, saying, "It seems someone is following us."

Lin Xi was about to speak when the driver said, "Don't worry about it, just drive normally." Lin Xi asked, "Why?" "Aren't we going to test the waters?" the driver said.

"Our responsibility is to protect you and Mr. Duan. There are three of us, including me. It wouldn't be good if they used a diversionary tactic." "Back to the old house." Hearing Duan Yiheng's voice, the driver instinctively replied, "Yes." Lin Xi suddenly turned her head: "You're awake."

Duan Yiheng reached out his hand to Lin Xi: "Don't worry, I'm here." "I'm not worried." Lin Xi squeezed his hand back. "It's hard to say if they're following us." Duan Yiheng said, "Whether they are or not, we'll part ways at the next intersection at most."

Lin Xi understood that even if they were being followed, they wouldn't do it openly. Sure enough, Duan Yiheng had caught them red-handed; after the next intersection, there wasn't a single car on the road. Back at the villa, Lin Xi pushed Duan Yiheng upstairs: "Go take a shower quickly." Duan Yiheng laughed at her:

"So impatient?" Lin Xi punched him in the lower back: "You reek of smoke and alcohol, what do you mean I can't wait? Sister Mei isn't asleep yet, can you stop talking nonsense?" Duan Yiheng stopped, turned around and hugged Lin Xi, who instinctively grabbed the handrail.

"Stop fooling around, go take a shower quickly." Duan Yiheng didn't say anything. Lin Xi lifted her head from his chest: "Are you drunk? Are you dizzy?" Duan Yiheng nodded: "Dizzy." Lin Xi asked: "Where else does it hurt?" "My stomach." Lin Xi felt sorry for him again:

"Sister Mei has already made you some hangover soup, let me go with you to take a shower first." Duan Yiheng's mind was perfectly clear; even if he was slightly drunk, it was only a few degrees. Today, Lu Tong called him to check on him, asking when he and Lin Xi were getting married.

He thought about it for a few minutes on the high-speed train, a sense of hesitation creeping in. Lin Xi was six years younger than him, in the prime of her youth, and he didn't dare use marriage to bind her. He had originally planned to bring it up, but then kept it bottled up inside.

Lin Xi, seeing that Duan Yiheng hadn't moved, quickly patted him: "You're not asleep, are you?" "No." Duan Yiheng turned his head away, afraid of offending Lin Xi with his alcohol fumes. Lin Xi pushed him: "Then what are you standing there for? Let's go upstairs."

Duan Yiheng let go of her, pulling her upstairs and into the bathroom. Sister Mei knocked on the door for a minute, but no one answered, so she had to go downstairs again. Lin Xi was soaked to the bone under the showerhead, and before she could react, her lips were sealed with a kiss.

She choked on water, feeling like her heart, liver, spleen, and lungs were about to come out. Duan Yiheng instantly sobered up, his hand stroking her back stiffening slightly. Lin Xi caught her breath and punched him hard. "I'm sorry."

Duan Yiheng said softly, stepping forward to block Lin Xi against the wall. "It wasn't intentional."

"Hmph."

"I like you."

"...Don't think that saying these things will make me forgive you."

"Then how can you forgive me?"
