Chapter 79 - Interlude: Genesis and Loki

Point of View: Genesis

We were alone.

We floated in the vast emptiness of the void, surrounded by a silent sea of stars. In the distance, countless planets drifted slowly through the darkness, scattered like forgotten remnants of an existence that no longer mattered.

All of them were dead.

No life. No purpose.

Just inert fragments suspended in time.

I observed the scene with little interest before turning my attention back to Loki. That was when I noticed it.

A faint smile.

Subtle. Barely noticeable.

But it was there.

Curious, I moved closer.

"What's making you so pleased, my friend?"

Loki turned toward me, his smile widening slightly, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"You were right," he said calmly. "Things… have become truly interesting."

I followed his gaze.

Dalaran.

Floating in the sky, alive and active… a stark contrast to the emptiness surrounding us.

I couldn't help but smirk.

"Obviously," I replied. "In the end, it was my idea."

I paused briefly before looking at him again.

"But that's not the only reason you're satisfied, is it?"

Loki looked away for a moment.

"No, Genesis…" he said lightly. "What do you mean?"

I rolled my eyes in annoyance.

"If you're going to lie, at least do it better."

I crossed my arms, watching him with a faintly amused expression.

"You're pleased because of your little protégé's recent actions… am I wrong?"

His expression shifted—just slightly.

Enough.

In the end, he exhaled slowly, giving in.

"Sometimes you're too perceptive, my friend."

His smile returned, this time without restraint.

"But yes… I am."

I nodded silently.

He didn't say it out loud… but I was as well.

Lysera had exceeded expectations.

Loki studied me carefully.

"You know," he said after a few seconds, "sometimes I envy your ability to find individuals like that."

I tilted my head slightly, thoughtful.

"It's not something I fully understand either."

Loki raised an eyebrow, inviting me to continue.

"At first… I didn't understand why I chose to help them."

Silence deepened between us.

"I even created a project for it."

I glanced at him.

"Prometheus."

The name lingered in the void.

"An attempt to transform lesser beings… into entities capable of reaching the Legendary level."

I sighed softly.

"If I'm honest… I didn't do it out of logic."

My gaze drifted briefly into the darkness.

"I simply felt that I would regret leaving them as they were."

A pause.

"To live, reproduce… and disappear."

I shook my head faintly.

"It felt like a waste."

Silence returned, heavier than before.

Loki broke it.

"Even so… the results are impressive."

His tone was analytical, yet filled with interest.

"Lysera possesses the traits of a true leader."

His eyes gleamed faintly.

"And her recent actions…"

He didn't finish.

He didn't need to.

I smiled.

"She deceived them all."

Loki nodded without hesitation.

"Or at least… that's what she believes."

For us…

There was no deception.

Only predictable patterns.

Loki continued, his tone sharper now:

"Lysera doesn't want any abomination to reach her level."

His statement was clear.

Unambiguous.

I nodded slightly.

"For her species… there can only be one leader."

The silence tightened.

"But war changes everything," I added. "The more conflict she creates… the more inevitable it becomes that one of them will ascend to challenge her."

Loki smiled faintly.

"Exactly."

His eyes reflected genuine interest.

"That's why she sends them to besiege the four main cities."

He paused, as if weighing his words.

"It's not just an offensive… it's a purge."

I interlaced my fingers, understanding completely.

"She reduces their numbers, eliminates potential rivals… and buys time."

Loki tilted his head slightly.

"Even though she knows she can't avoid it forever."

The silence filled with shared understanding.

"However…" I added, turning toward him, "I doubt she could have achieved all of this without your intervention."

I looked at him directly.

"Am I wrong… great and mighty leader of the dark faction?"

Loki laughed.

"Hahaha… that was good."

He shook his head, still smiling.

"But you're right."

His tone became more serious.

"Lysera wouldn't have been able to control all the abominations so easily without my approval."

A brief pause.

"And without my help."

My lips curved slightly.

"But she doesn't know that."

"No," Loki replied, his smile sharpening. "And it's better that way."

Silence returned, sharper than before.

Loki spoke again.

"Though you're wrong about one thing."

I raised an eyebrow.

"Oh?"

"Lysera didn't lie."

I watched him with interest.

"Everyone believes she acts out of boredom."

His eyes gleamed.

"And in part… it's true."

I understood immediately.

"It's not a lie."

I paused.

"It's just… an incomplete truth."

Loki nodded, satisfied.

"Exactly."

A trace of pride appeared in his expression.

"But there's more."

His gaze drifted beyond Dalaran.

"The siege doesn't just eliminate competition…"

His voice lowered.

"It also weakens the leaders of the main plane."

I nodded slowly.

"She sees herself as the only leader."

"The only one that should exist."

"And everything else…"

"Is just a stepping stone for her ascension."

We exchanged a glance.

No more words were needed.

Loki let out a quiet laugh.

"She must be frustrated."

"Very."

"The 'livestock'—as she calls them… has grown too strong."

We both laughed softly.

A shared, complicit laugh.

"And yet," Loki added, "she doesn't understand that all of this…"

His gaze deepened.

"Was part of the plan from the very beginning."

The silence that followed was dense.

Inevitable.

Finally, I looked at him.

"Do you plan to meet her?"

Loki hesitated for a moment.

"Not yet."

His voice changed.

Cold.

Empty.

"I'm still not satisfied."

His cold eyes locked onto mine.

"If I were in her position…"

A pause.

"I would be far more cruel."

Another pause.

"More efficient."

There was no emotion.

Only evaluation.

"She still has much to learn."

He crossed his arms.

"I want to see what she does when other abominations of her level appear."

His lips curved slightly.

"Will she dominate them…?"

His gaze darkened.

"Or be dominated?"

I didn't answer immediately.

Because I was curious as well.

My thoughts drifted toward her.

Lysera.

"Will you continue to meet my expectations…?"

The void gave no answer.

But I didn't need one.

I closed my eyes slightly.

"If my judgment is correct…"

A faint smile formed on my lips.

"You will succeed."

I opened my eyes again.

Endless darkness.

"And if not…"

A brief pause.

Cold.

"Someone else will take your place."

The Prometheus Project…

Does not stop for anyone.
