Chapter 72 - The Tipping Point

The air was thick with tension, and the ground beneath their feet quivered as Eryx and Riven prepared for the final confrontation. Kael, the demon wolf, stood at the center of the battlefield, his massive form looming over the wreckage of the once-thriving forest. His demonic energy was like a tangible force that distorted the air around him, making it impossible to breathe freely. The landscape was barren, a testimony to the destruction that had already been wrought. But even in this wasteland, Kael was not yet finished. His hunger for destruction, for the chaos that only he could unleash, remained insatiable.

Eryx stood beside Riven, his gaze fixed on the twisted demon before them. His expression was calm, almost too calm for someone about to face such an enemy. Riven, on the other hand, was a bundle of nerves. The battle had taken its toll on him physically and mentally. He could feel the weight of his choices, the lingering doubt, the fear that he wasn't enough. His skin was slick with cold sweat, his breath shallow as he tried to steady himself.

Eryx turned to Riven, his tone casual but with a sharp edge of authority. "Hey kid, do you mind giving me a hand cleaning up your mess?"

Riven froze. He swallowed hard, his heart hammering in his chest. For a moment, he almost thought he might pass out from the sheer pressure of the situation. His body trembled, a mix of adrenaline and dread coursing through him.

He knew what was coming. Kael was a monster he'd already proven that. But now, Riven wasn't just facing Kael's monstrous form; he was staring at the consequences of his own weakness, his own inability to control the power within him.

"Sure, man," Riven finally managed to say, his voice trembling despite his best efforts to sound confident. He took a deep breath, gathering himself. "Let's finish this."

With those words, both Eryx and Riven charged, their combined strength echoing in the air. They moved as one, Eryx the brute force and Riven the agile distraction. Riven weaved and dodged, his twin blades flashing as they slashed at Kael's enormous form. Eryx followed close behind, his massive fists landing blow after blow. For a brief moment, it seemed like their combined strategy was working.

Riven's speed and agility made him an excellent distraction. He darted in and out of Kael's range, his twin blades flashing with precision. Eryx, using his size and strength, followed up with devastating punches that landed with enough force to shake the very ground. Kael staggered back, his monstrous form wincing with every blow, his twisted face contorted in pain.

But Kael wasn't finished. Not by a long shot.

Kael let out a guttural laugh, his voice twisted and demonic. "Come at me, then!" he bellowed, his voice sending a shiver down Riven's spine.

In an instant, Kael's eyes gleamed with malicious intent. His body surged with more dark energy, and he launched himself at Eryx and Riven with an inhuman speed. The ground beneath his feet cracked as he moved, his monstrous claws outstretched.

It happened in a flash one moment, Riven was dancing around Kael, blades slicing through the air with precision, and the next, everything fell apart.

Riven, driven by his confidence, made a mistake.

He moved in too close.

Riven aimed for Kael's side, a perfect strike, he thought. But in his haste to land a blow, he overextended. Kael, his eyes flashing with deadly intent, seized the opportunity.

Kael's hand shot out, faster than Riven could react. He grabbed Riven's wrist with a crushing grip, his claws digging into his flesh. Before Riven could pull away, Kael twisted his body and caught Eryx's punch mid-flight, using the momentum to fling him away, separating the two fighters.

Eryx's massive form collided with the ground, sending a shockwave through the terrain. Riven's heart pounded in his chest as he looked at Eryx, helpless on the ground.

He was alone.

Kael's twisted grin spread across his face as he loomed over Riven. He tightened his grip on Riven's wrist, pulling him toward his face with terrifying speed.

Riven's pulse quickened, a cold sweat running down his spine. He could feel his bones cracking under Kael's strength as the demon's other hand shot toward his head, fingers outstretched like deadly claws.

"No! No!" Riven shouted, his heart pounding as his mind raced for a way out.

But there was no escape.

Kael's grip tightened, his fingers pressing into Riven's skull with terrifying force. Riven's vision blurred as blood rushed to his head. Panic clawed at his chest as he struggled to free himself, but Kael's strength was overwhelming. Every attempt to escape only made Kael's grip stronger.

I can't breathe...

Riven's mind raced. He could feel the pressure building, his skull trembling beneath Kael's grip. His vision swam, his eyes filling with blood as the force of Kael's fingers crushed down on his head.

Is this how it ends?

His heart raced, his pulse pounding in his ears. He felt his consciousness slipping, his body beginning to fail him under the immense pressure.

Just as Riven's vision began to fade, a sharp crack filled the air.

A fist, an iron-hard left hook landed squarely on Kael's face. The force of the punch sent the demon reeling back, his grip loosening as his head snapped to the side. Kael roared in fury, staggering backward as Riven collapsed to the ground, gasping for air.

Riven could barely process what had happened, his mind reeling from the near-death experience. His vision swam, but through the haze, he saw Eryx, standing tall despite the wounds that covered his body, his eyes glowing with an intensity that was both familiar and terrifying.

"Relax, kid," Eryx said, his voice rough but steady. "I've got no other choice now."

Riven, panting and disoriented, looked up at Eryx. "What… what do you mean?"

Eryx's expression softened slightly. "It's time for you to see it. My true strength."

Before Riven could respond, Eryx spread his arms wide, his aura flaring up in a brilliant explosion of light. Riven blinked, his eyes widening as the power surrounding Eryx began to shift, growing stronger and more intense with each passing second.

Eryx's form grew, grew as his transformation began. His fur thickened, expanding in size as his claws extended. His fangs grew longer, sharper, and his body became larger almost as large as kael a beast in the truest sense.

And then, it happened. The final evolution.

Eryx's body rippled with power, and a deep, resonant roar filled the air. His eyes blazed like molten gold, and his aura expanded outward, a brilliant, golden light that seemed to burn away the very darkness Kael had summoned.

Eryx had entered his Apex Lycanus form.

Riven stared in stunned silence as Eryx now a towering, more evolved silver-furred werewolf stepped forward. The ground shook beneath Eryx's feet as he launched forward, moving with a speed that Riven could barely comprehend. His massive claws swiped through the air, and with a roar, he shot at Kael, his power radiating outward in waves of pure energy.

Eryx and Kael collided with a force so immense that the earth trembled beneath them. Their auras clashed in the air, sending shockwaves that cleared the land around them. Riven could feel the heat from their battle, the very air seeming to vibrate with the intensity of their struggle.

Kael's demonic form was massive too massive for any normal wolf to handle but now, with the Apex Lycanus form, Eryx was on a different level. He was no longer simply a werewolf; he was something greater something beyond.

Riven could only watch in awe as the two titans clashed.

Eryx was faster, stronger, and more ruthless than ever before. With each strike, Kael's defenses shattered, his power faltering under the might of Eryx's final form. The battle raged on, but in that moment, Riven knew one thing for certain:

The fight was not over yet. But with Eryx in his new form, victory was now within reach of is it .
