Chapter 21 - Hisham shines

The one thousand six hundred and thirty-third case.

The second and final session.

This court looked like an ancient Roman theater where there are seats forming circular graduated rings.

While in the middle of these stands there are three main places.

The judge's seat and desk and to the right the seats of Laith and his companions while on the left there are Abraham and Abdullah and Hisham with the absence of the demoness Clara this time.

This court was somewhat different this time where hundreds of people came to watch this sensitive case, and this is what made old Ribeiro happy.

The voices of the audience as they whispered to each other annoyed the judge, therefore he raised his hand as a signal for them to be silent, and indeed silence fell upon the hall.

«The beginning is for the right side».

Abraham rejoiced greatly after hearing that the judge had started the session with the right side, this meant that he would start by responding, and then by questioning the right side he and his companions would attack with patching.

Laith stood and said: «Abraham, you mentioned in the previous session that the grandfather of the family harmed by Mater's mistakes is your grandfather's friend, even you said he is a friend to you, so how will we believe you?».

Tears began to fall from Abraham's cheeks:

«O colleague, this is great cruelty... an accusation like this... do you think I would lie while this grandfather was an important part of my life, do you accuse me that all my life was a lie».

Abraham wiped his tears and said: «O Laith, I want to ask, what is your relationship with Mater that made you seek to defend him».

Laith was firm: «I do not know him personally and I did not have a discussion with him, he seems like a great and innocent man, and I wished to have enjoyed friendship with him, as for my defense of him I and my companions here champion justice without calculation».

The crowds began to shout and with joyful cheering the names of Laith and Ribeiro and Chodo and others.

The judge resorted to silencing them again.

The debate between Laith and Abraham was somewhat boring, at this moment both Hisham and the head of the sorcerers' school advanced.

The law imposed the participation of the largest number of concerned parties.

Abraham and Abdullah were not annoyed by Hisham representing them.

They know their colleague's abilities well, even if he is lower than them, but in the end he was a professional criminal.

The beginning was for the director of the sorcerers' school:

«O Hisham, what is your role in destroying the freedom of an innocent Babylonian citizen like Mater?».

The director placed the terms in a way that plays on emotions.

«My role is to help my brothers in teaching criminals like Mater a lesson».

Hisham is frank and direct, he does not master chatter, but he is skilled in cornering others with words.

«O our director, how many responsibilities do you have.. everyone knows that you carry on your back more than one position packed with work in Babylon».

The director replied: «I know my work better than anyone else».

The director understood Hisham's game, therefore he used it against him, while Hisham understood that the director understood his game, so he decided to play his opponent's game as well.

His opponent's game was speech full of emotions.

«O respected sir director of the sorcerers' school in Babylon, tell me, are you not responsible for children and teenagers who are considered the next generation of sorcerers, so in the end a whole generation under your responsibility?

It would be better if you focus on building a generation we are proud of instead of collecting tips by interfering in lost causes».

A very strong reply from Hisham.

But the director was not affected: «Working on a generation better than you and Abraham and your criminal gangs is a brilliant success, for in the end I am facing here the dark evil stemming from a sorcerer who did not receive the principles of nobility».

He meant Abraham with his words.
