Chapter 62 - Chapter 62 - Fall of Rome Part Four

With a dull noise, the wooden door began to deform, and the logs that blocked the door started to splinter from the pressure.

The men who protected the door tightly held their spears while nervously watching the soldiers in black armor who appeared on the other side.

"I am a senator of Rome and I belong to the neutral faction!" shouted Gaius with a shrill voice and an expression of panic.

The clone soldiers ignored the shouts and continued smashing the thick wooden log against the door.

After a dozen blows, the wooden door could no longer withstand it.

With a loud noise, the doorframe broke, and as a consequence the thick wooden door fell heavily.

With the fall of the door, a sepulchral silence arose on the side of the armed men who protected the residence; the clone soldiers, with silent movements, entered the house of Senator Gaius.

A clone soldier inserted a short sword into the eye socket of an armed slave.

The clone soldier, with a fluid movement, withdrew the sword from the slave's head and blocked the attack of a thug who attacked taking advantage of the situation.

A clone soldier kicked an unsuspecting thug, and his sword was driven into the thug's groin, causing him to let out a loud and pitiful scream.

The clone soldiers abandoned formation and attacked the guards of Gaius's house without showing mercy.

Three slaves who planned to surrender were beheaded by the clone soldiers without having the opportunity to utter a single word.

A thug with a desperate expression who tried to attack a clone soldier had his throat cut without having the opportunity to unleash his madness.

Senator Gaius, with a horrified expression at the situation, immediately knelt down, abandoning all his dignity.

A clone soldier approached Senator Gaius, who was kneeling on the ground with his hands raised.

With a quick movement of the sword, the two hands of Senator Gaius were skillfully severed.

Gaius's screams were also silenced with a sword that was thrust into his throat.

The house of Senator Gaius became an infernal scene full of corpses.

The clone soldiers were able to unleash all their individual combat skills and easily kill the group of armed slaves and thugs.

The wife and daughter of Senator Gaius were captured and tied up while being treated as spoils of war.

The screams and laments could be heard throughout Gaius's house.

Similar scenes began to be enacted in the city of Rome.

The clone army looted and killed indiscriminately without unnecessary considerations.

In a house of a member of the Scipio family.

A group of one hundred clone soldiers faced with provocative looks a group of Sulla's soldiers led by a centurion.

"This property belongs to a senator of the Scipio family, and by order of General Sulla it must not be attacked," shouted the centurion seriously at the soldiers in black armor.

"I am not interested, we demand the head of the senator," replied a clone centurion coldly.

The Scipio family had many relatives and controlled a dozen seats in the Roman Senate.

The clone soldiers intended to kill important members of the Scipio family to avoid troubles in the future.

The centurion and the Roman soldiers who heard the words of the clone soldier burst into indignation.

That is a senator of the Roman Senate!

Roman senators were a force to be reckoned with throughout the Mediterranean.

When they traveled to other countries, even monarchs had to treat them with the utmost respect and offer them large sums of money.

Envoys from other countries often only knew the Senate and did not pay as much attention to the consuls.

In addition, the Senate possessed a powerful weapon: the "final suffrage" (also known as emergency law or final decree). Once this weapon was used, the Senate could order the consuls to kill anyone without prior trial. In Roman history, Gaius Gracchus, who initiated the reforms, and his followers died because of this "final suffrage."

Treating a Roman senator like a criminal who could be easily killed made the centurion and his soldiers uncomfortable.

"General Sulla gave orders to protect this house," said the Roman centurion with a serious expression, giving a signal to his soldiers to prepare.

The situation quickly became tense, with both sides ready to fight.

A clone soldier suddenly threw a javelin that struck the opposing soldier in the head.

The thrown javelin was like a signal for the clone soldiers, who also began to attack the group of Sulla's soldiers.

Septimus did not plan to stop his looting and massacres of noble houses because of a small group of soldiers blocking the way using Sulla's authority.

During the siege battle, General Sulla had used the clone army as cannon fodder.

Clone spies in the city of Rome confirmed that the two legions that were in charge of the defense of the city surrendered quickly at the beginning of the siege of Sulla's army.

Septimus was a historian in his past life and knew about Catiline's political inclination and the lack of will to fight of the Scipio family.

What did Sulla's actions mean by hiding information?

The strange actions of Sulla could be easily guessed by Septimus.

General Sulla wanted to weaken the military power of Septimus by hiding that the Scipio family and Catiline had surrendered.

With the purpose of allowing the clone soldiers to suffer heavy casualties while attacking the city wall.

Sulla's plan succeeded, causing heavy losses to the clone army.

On the other hand, Septimus would also take advantage of the chaos of the city to kill scattered groups of soldiers from Sulla's side.

Septimus would not easily tolerate Sulla's cunning deception.

The clone soldiers would show Sulla's army why they were so feared by the Roman defenders.

The sudden attack of the clone soldiers surprised the centurion and his soldiers.

The centurion, with years of combat experience, faced a clone soldier, managing to push him with his shield.

The quick reaction of the centurion with his heavy shield had the luck to strike the head of a clone soldier and stun him momentarily.

With a decisive movement, the centurion inserted his short sword into the eye of the clone soldier.

The other soldiers who accompanied the centurion did not have much luck and were easily overwhelmed by the clone soldiers.

On the other hand, the centurion was attacked by three clone soldiers and killed after putting up fierce resistance.

With the interference of the clone army, the chaotic situation of the city of Rome intensified.

The clone army, taking advantage of its advantage in individual combat and the shared connection, divided into small groups of one hundred men, attacking the houses of wealthy families regardless of the protection of Sulla's soldiers.

Septimus had more than 20 legions that were distributed between the region of Campania and the current battle in Rome.

Should Septimus swallow his pride and tolerate Sulla's small dirty tricks without retaliation?

Impossible, General Sulla can play small dirty tricks to cause losses to the clone army, and Septimus can as well.

Even if Sulla became angry with Septimus, the current situation of the city of Rome was very chaotic.
