Chapter 90 - Tale #89: Capitalism Built On EXP

Up until now, the only living beings that I have killed Directly, are Bugs. And that's true including my past life as well.

I had thought that killing a monster, especially a humanoid one, even a foul, green-skinned one would evoke some negative feelings or moral crisis or effect on my mind. I expected my hands to shake but Surprisingly or perhaps Unsurprisingly, it didn't.

It did not feel any different from swatting a mosquito that had been buzzing in my ear for far too long.

And I am thankful that it was as such.

I don't want to have a mental breakdown in the middle of a dungeon expedition, after all. That's a luxury only dead can have.

"Good Job!" Boran rumbled as they came closer keeping eyes on the corpse "finishing it with an upper slash instead of a Down slash was the right choice."

"Of course it was" I replied, cleaning my blade with a sharp flick of my wrist, shedding the Green Blood off my blade "Am i that much of an amateur ?"

If I used a down slash, i would have to remove my eyes from him momentarily. Not to mention, it would take much longer, even if the generated force would be stronger. It's not worth the trade.

"Okay, okay, don't get cocky," Boran chuckled.

[ABSORBING MANA...]

[REENFORCE BODY...]

Suddenly, a blue, semi-transparent window flickered into existence before my eyes, as I felt a rejuvenating energy entering from the Dead goblin to my body.

This is the reason for which, Despite the possible heavy consequences of letting a normal dungeon exist, they are allowed to exist. Adventurers can destroy a Dungeon by removing the Core but they still let it stay to use it as a Level Farming Ground.

*****

If a normal dungeon is ignored and were to stay opened for too long and it is not cleaned up regularly, an Ugly phenomena called 'Overflow' will occur. And that's not a good thing for a society full of common people.

Hmm... the name 'Overflow' makes me remember about a certain pair of three siblings... Nah, shouldn't have such thoughts.

Dungeons, except for Instant type dungeons, are all considered to be the property of the Land owner, which is none other than the King. They are like real estate.

The guilds 'Borrow' or 'Rent' the dungeon from the king in exchange for a yearly rental fee and let the Adventurers use it to become strong and bring mana stones to the table.

If you think about it, It's actually a win-win situation for both parties.

If guilds do not take the dungeons, The royals will have two options- One, Destroy the dungeon. That would be a huge waste. Two, Send soldiers regularly to clean them up and prevent Overflow. The soldiers will get stronger in the process too. But that wouldn't be entirely efficient either.

So, By following this system, The king get to earn some extra money while The guilds get to have a Mana stone supply for themselves and an opportunity to strengthen their greatest assets, their employees, The Adventurers.

The king gets some extra cash by lending something that is not even his. After all, Dungeons are technically a property of nature like fruits and rivers. While the guild takes care of everything including management, cleanup and Mana stone raids.

So, Basically despite the risks of a dungeon, the reason why the Dungeon still stands can be explained in one word- 'Capitalism'. It's the product of capitalism.

No matter which world you go to, You can't escape the capitalist society. It exists everywhere, in plain sight. You just gotta notice it.

And what was the Earlier energy absorption Notification all about, the benefit of Dungeons ? Simple.

In the terms of gaming language, it's EXP.

Yes, EXP. See, to understand this mechanism, one needs to know how people get stronger in this world.

So, there is something called Mana Cultivation.

Simply put, becoming stronger in this world is a chore. A person needs to absorbs the mana from surroundings and refine it, or let's say clean it within their body. The body acts as a filter for the natural mana.

That way, the Mana turns into Refined Mana and once the mana is refined, the body itself decides where this refined mana will go and which part will this refined mana strengthen.

If the person is a Mage, the mana will go to his mana circuits and make it strong enough to pull off higher level spells.

If the person is a warrior it will strengthen his body. The physical body, the muscle fibers and bone density.

And for someone like me, it will be both. Since I am a perfect blend of both mage and warrior, Thanks to my traits.

Although, people who are pure warrior, People who use only their weapon and body but no spells at all, are very rare. Even Boran can use magic spells in combat but he does not use it that much.

And how much mana can a person refine in a certain amount of time is highly dependent on his talent for refinement. There are even people who are so talented that they don't even need to meditate to absorb and refine mana. It's as easy as breathing to them.

Of course, a person need quite a lot of experience to reach that stage of breathing cultivation. In fact, I have a feeling that I will be able to reach it one day too.

This Refined Mana is the EXP. In the outer world a person has to absorb natural mana from nature and refine it. but here ?

When a monster is killed Refined Mana enters the killer's body by itself. The dungeon hands out ready-made refined mana to the killer.

It only happens for Dungeon monsters Though, and not with wild monsters.

So, people basically use these dungeons for level farming.

So Basically, To sum it all up, The difference between Mana Cultivation in the outer world and EXP farming in the dungeon is essentially the same as the difference between Home-Made cooking and Restaurant eating.

How? In Mana Cultivation, you absorb the raw Mana and then Refine it yourself. Just like how in cooking, You buy and bring the raw ingredients and then Cook it all up by yourself.

When you go to restaurant, you get the ready made dish by ordering but you just have to pay a little more price. Just like Dungeon farming, You will get EXP but you have to hunt the monster by yourself. A small price to pay.

But, even when absorbing exp, The system does not give notifications like this. The Adventurers feel the rush of power, sure. They might feel their "level" rising as their muscles tighten and This and that. But they surely do not see a screen telling them about it.

So, what's with this VIP special treatment? Is this also part of being a transmigrator. Even after thinking for minutes I couldn't find the reason. So, I did what any wise person would do. Give up.

Forget it, let's just enjoy the benefits. Why complain?
