Lily had to admit—
That massive, brutal brown Ursaring had left a deep impression on her.
Ren had said that any Pokémon capable of becoming a wild leader was definitely not weak.
But she hadn't expected Teddiursa to be rated as a top-tier SR with outstanding potential.
Lily felt tempted.
Sure, she had sworn to become a Dragon-type Trainer. But… people couldn't be too rigid, right?
She only had three Pokémon right now—far from the standard six-member team Ren had mentioned.
Maybe she could temporarily add a Teddiursa before getting another Dragon-type.
Then—
Her face turned green again.
That savage Ursaring.
She had only hugged Teddiursa for a moment, and the giant bear had chased her for half an hour.
If she actually abducted its child?
Lily had no doubt that Ursaring would chase her to the ends of the earth.
That wasn't love.
That was terror.
"…Maybe that forest Teddiursa just has bad talent and can't evolve easily," Lily muttered to herself.
Absolutely not because she was scared.
Definitely not.
---
"Boss! I want this Teddiursa. Swipe the card!"
Lucas had no idea what Lily was thinking. He proudly pulled out his bank card with the confidence of Magic City's top young master.
Ren smiled.
"No 20% discount anymore. Teddiursa costs 380,000."
Ever since Pokémon appeared across Magic City, Ren had ended the promotional discounts. Pokémon House was positioned for the mid-to-high-end clientele.
Lucas waved casually.
"No problem. Charge it."
Rao Xiaofei took the card with a sweet smile while Ren entered the inner room.
Moments later, the door opened.
A small, light-brown Teddiursa waddled out curiously.
It bit its tiny paw, glanced around shyly, and tilted its head adorably.
Lucas' eyes lit up.
Even cuter in person.
The Pokédex chimed:
"Ding—Teddiursa. Normal-type. Bear Pokémon.
Ability: Quick Feet.
Moves: Fling, Covet, Scratch, Baby-Doll Eyes, Lick, Fake Tears, Cross Chop.
When it finds honey, the crescent on its forehead glows. It hides food during times of scarcity."
"That's a lot of moves," Lucas said, surprised.
"More than the one in the forest," Lily noted.
She had scanned that wild Teddiursa before. This one clearly knew more moves, though it looked slightly younger and smaller.
"Move mastery relates to talent," Ren explained while gently patting Teddiursa's head. "Except for Cross Chop, which is a genetic move, the rest are naturally learned. This one's aptitude is very good."
Lily nodded thoughtfully.
So the forest one really wasn't as talented.
Lucas crouched down, smiling warmly.
"From now on, I'm your Trainer. Let's grow stronger together."
Teddiursa stared at him for a moment—then narrowed its eyes happily and nodded.
Lucas gently pinched its cheek.
"Good boy."
"Twenty boxes of standard energy cubes," Lucas added to Rao Xiaofei.
No Pokémon of his would ever go hungry.
Principles mattered.
---
"By the way, boss," Lucas said casually while opening a box of energy cubes, "what about that competitive tournament you mentioned?"
Lily instantly perked up.
"Yes! When are we holding it?!"
Battling other Trainers. Winning. Becoming champion.
That was her dream.
Emma also leaned forward.
"Now that Pokémon have appeared across Magic City, it's about time, right?"
Even Miya looked curious.
Ren looked at the three eager faces and laughed helplessly.
"I'm planning it."
"But it can't be rushed. The number of Trainers right now is still limited."
He wasn't interested in a small, low-profile event.
If he did it—
It would be the Magic City Tournament.
A large-scale competition to crown the strongest Trainer in Magic City.
But currently, outside of Pokémon House customers like Lily, Emma, and Lucas, very few people even owned Pokémon.
Most people were still cautiously trying to build friendship with wild Pokémon.
"Give it some time," Ren said calmly. "Soon."
Lily pouted but nodded.
Lucas stroked his chin.
"Good. Gives me time to train."
He now had four Pokémon: Larvitar, Aron, Onix, and Teddiursa.
Still a "baby team," according to Ren.
His goal?
Evolve all of them before the tournament.
Champion was non-negotiable.
Who else could possibly compete?
Most people didn't even have Pokémon yet.
As for real threats…
Lucas glanced sideways.
Lily—with her high-potential team, especially Dratini.
He had lost to her once.
And Emma—
A Water-type specialist.
Lucas felt a headache coming on.
Larvitar and Onix were four-times weak to Water.
Annoying.
Still.
He would prepare.
This championship belonged to him.
---
Lily suddenly stood up.
"Boss! I'm drawing too!"
Ren handed her the Pokédex.
"Very good! Bagon! Deino! Bagon! Deino!"
Dratini was already secured. Next targets: more Dragons.
She didn't even realize that Pokémon like Gible and Goomy were also Dragons.
"For the tournament!"
She slammed the button.
Shadows flashed across the screen—
And froze.
Green.
Small.
Caterpillar-shaped.
"…Are you stalking me?!" Lily's face darkened.
Caterpie.
Again.
"Brother Bug, we are not meant to be," she muttered solemnly.
She drew again immediately.
One minute later—
"Waaah! Emma! This can't be real!"
She lunged dramatically toward Emma.
Emma expressionlessly held her down.
"Get up."
"You've changed! You don't love me anymore!"
Rao Xiaofei giggled softly.
Ren, however, wasn't paying attention.
He rested his chin on his hand, thinking.
The Magic City Tournament couldn't start immediately—
But the warm-up could.
The system's branch mission clearly stated: organize Pokémon competitions. Reward tiers unlocked based on final impact.
The highest tier unlocked…
The Legendary Prize Pool.
Ren's eyes narrowed thoughtfully.
If he wanted massive popularity—
He needed exposure.
Advertising across major apps.
Valuable prizes.
Rare item rewards.
Or even…
Rare Pokémon as championship rewards.
That would ignite the entire city.
