By the time she made it home that night, Liwu had finished reading half of the novel. She had made dozens of notes which she intended to share with the rest of the team the following day. It was round 9:00 pm, when she pulled into the driveway. She expected calm and silence, but instead, a glass flew out of the window, smashing into the side mirror of her car.
She stepped on the brakes and stopped the car immediately. Setting her pace to a run, she dashed into the main house, to the living room.
It looked like a battlefield. Vases shattered, cushions torn, a lamp dangling from a cord like a hanged criminal. Glass all around. Marbles from a decorative glass vase had been spilled all over the floor. In the center of the destruction stood Manman, a woman Liwu had not seen in a while.
