Chapter 14 - kael's Defiance

Chapter 14: Kael's Defiance

The Court Hall was slowly emptying.

Nobles whispered among themselves as they left. Council members spoke in hushed voices.

But one person still hadn't moved.

Young Master Kael Montclair.

He stood in the same place, his eyes fixed only on the door through which Elara had been taken.

His fists were clenched tightly.

And an uneasy tension still lingered throughout the hall.

Lady Seraphina slowly stepped down from the throne platform.

"Everyone leave," she said calmly.

One by one, they began to exit.

Only Adrian remained beside her.

A faint smile rested on his lips.

"You're becoming far too emotional, Kael," he said.

Kael didn't look at him.

"You made a mistake."

Adrian laughed softly.

"No. I won."

A moment of silence passed.

Then Kael slowly turned his gaze toward him.

There was no anger in his eyes.

And that was what made it terrifying.

"You think this is the end," Kael said quietly. "But you don't understand… who you touched."

The smile on Adrian's face faltered slightly.

At that moment, Seraphina stepped forward.

"Enough."

Her voice was soft. Yet the entire hall fell silent.

She stopped in front of Kael.

"You attempted to break the court's order today."

Kael answered calmly,

"Because the court was already broken."

A second of silence.

This time, Adrian frowned slightly.

Seraphina spoke slowly.

"Are you implying… this court is corrupted?"

Kael met her gaze directly.

"I'm saying," he said quietly, "the verdict had already been decided."

The air froze.

The guards standing in the distance exchanged glances.

Because no one from the Montclair family had ever spoken against Lady Seraphina so openly.

Never.

Seraphina smiled faintly.

"A dangerous accusation."

Kael stepped closer.

"Then punish me."

Adrian looked genuinely shocked this time.

"Kael—"

"No," Kael interrupted. "Let everyone hear this today."

His voice was cold. But every word felt like a restrained explosion.

"Elara is innocent."

Seraphina's eyes narrowed.

"Can you prove it?"

Kael remained silent for a moment.

Then he answered slowly—

"I can."

For the first time, Adrian's expression changed completely.

Because Kael didn't sound like he was bluffing.

Seraphina noticed it too.

And at that moment, she realized—

the situation was beginning to slip beyond her control.

She spoke quietly.

"You're walking toward your own destruction, Kael."

Kael gave a faint smile.

"Perhaps."

Then his eyes turned cold again.

"But if I drown alone… I'll drag others down with me."

Silence.

Suddenly, the massive doors of the Court Hall burst open.

A royal guard hurried inside.

He dropped to one knee and lowered his head.

"My Lady… there's been a problem in the detention wing."

Kael's eyes sharpened instantly.

"What problem?"

The guard hesitated.

Then he spoke in a low voice—

"Elara… is no longer in her cell."

The entire hall froze.

Adrian stepped forward.

"What?"

For the first time, the smile disappeared from Seraphina's face.

And Kael…

slowly closed his eyes.

Then, in a very quiet voice, he said—

"Finally."
