Chapter 68 - Chapter 68 : Breaking point

Amara's POV :

Sunday morning came too fast.

I woke up before my alarm to find myself on my side of the bed for once with the pillow barrier still somehow intact between us. Roman was already awake scrolling through his phone.

"Morning," he said without looking up.

"Morning."

We got ready in silence and packed our bags and by eight we were downstairs for breakfast with Eleanor.

She was waiting in the breakfast room with coffee and warm pastries and that same knowing smile she'd worn all weekend.

"Your last morning here," she said as we sat down. "I hope you both enjoyed the visit."

"It was wonderful, thank you for having me," I said and meant it despite the guilt sitting heavy in my chest.

"You're welcome anytime, Amara. Both of you are." She poured coffee into delicate china cups that clinked softly against the saucers. "I know Roman doesn't visit as often as he should but perhaps now he'll have more reason to come home."

Roman shifted in his seat but didn't argue.
