Days had passed since I overheard that conversation and it had been on my mind since then. The words followed me everywhere. In fact, it was permanently stuck in my head.
Is that what was really going to happen?
The worst part was that I might die like Lydia and the others. I signed heavily and rested my chin on my knees.
I hated thinking about it but somehow my mind always returned there. I ended up thinking about Hades and then I would start pitying him.
The memory of our conversation in his office lingered stubbornly. The sadness in his eyes and exhaustion. Sometimes I wondered how he managed to carry it all.
Later that day, I wandered through the pack with no destination in mind. I just needed to get out of my room. The air would do me some good. I also felt I had not had human interactions in the last few days. I barely saw Hades.
