Once Charlotte was certain they had both left, her gaze dropped to the stove and her heart sank.
The food was nearly ruined, at least twenty percent of it burnt.
With a small sigh, she quickly turned off the stove before hurrying out of the kitchen. She made her way straight to her room, stepping into the restroom and gripping the edge of the basin tightly. She splashed cold water over her face again and again, trying to steady her breathing, trying to quiet the storm inside her.
But it didn't help.
She could still feel him.
His hands. His touch.
A shiver ran through her.
Pressing her lips together, she wiped her face dry before changing into her pajamas. Then, forcing herself to move past the lingering heat in her body, she stepped back out to set the table.
Her thoughts refused to settle.
No matter how hard she tried not to think about it, her mind kept circling back to him, to what had happened… and to what might happen later, when they would share the same bed.
