"Gérard is my mate. I'm not leaving him."
Her voice carried a quiet certainty that made Dominique's frown deepen into a hard scowl.
"He's our enemy," Dominique said, his tone controlled but edged with ice. Restraint had never come easily to him. "Have you forgotten that?"
"He's my mate," Charlotte replied firmly. "And he hasn't treated me like an enemy."
Dominique looked away, his jaw tightening as his hand gripped the railing with force.
"He wants to destroy our pack, Charlotte," he pressed. "He's aiming for the Alpha King's throne. He's already under the King's watch. His life is in danger and if you stay beside him, yours will be too."
Charlotte shook her head faintly.
"He doesn't want power," she said. "Something happened to him. I don't know everything, but what I do understand… his reasons aren't the same as Henri's."
Dominique turned back to her, studying her carefully.
She didn't sound like his little sister anymore.
