Chapter 122 - The Summit at Indigo Plateau

Under the cover of night, two dragon Pokémon cut across endless skies.

Gradually, streaks of light appeared on the horizon. The sun rose once more, bathing the earth in golden radiance.

Even while carrying passengers, Lance's Dragonite and Charizard had flown fast enough to chase the planet's rotation itself.

Seeing this scene, Peter took out a Poké Ball.

"Come out, Rufflet!"

"Oil!"

Rufflet let out a sharp cry and landed atop Charizard's head, spreading its wings wide to feel the rushing currents of air.

With a powerful flap—

A tailwind surged.

Riding the momentum of Charizard's flight, Rufflet leapt forward into open sky!

"Ah! Rufflet—!" Whitney gasped.

They were flying thousands of meters above ground at extreme speed. That kind of stunt was dangerously reckless.

"Don't worry," Peter smiled. "Rufflet may be small… but it's still an eagle."

As if on cue, Rufflet surged forward, cloaked in a blue-flamed gale.

It was accelerating with Brave Bird.

"Rooaar…" Charizard glanced sideways and subtly adjusted its wing angle, reducing air resistance for the little eagle.

"SKREE—!"

Rufflet's cry rang out, its speed climbing yet another level.

The exhilaration of soaring through open skies intoxicated it completely.

As the flight continued, Rufflet's stamina dwindled rapidly—but its spirit burned brighter than ever.

Peter's sharp eyes noticed something else.

The chaotic air currents around Rufflet gradually shifted—from wild turbulence to deliberate control. Now, they formed a stable rotational loop.

Each wingbeat guided the airflow into spirals, slicing through the air ahead and reducing drag.

Lance watched in admiration.

"Looks like your Rufflet's got serious talent. Learning that this quickly…"

Peter blinked—

And the system notification chimed.

[Ding! Rufflet has comprehended the move "Fly" while riding high-altitude winds!]

Rufflet fluttered back to Charizard's side and collapsed onto its back, panting.

"Great job, Rufflet~"

Peter fed it a Pokéblock.

"Chirp~"

While the little eagle devoured its snack, a massive plateau rose through the clouds ahead.

Indigo Plateau.

They had arrived.

-----

Indigo Plateau

Indigo Plateau was home to both the Indigo League and the Johto League. It also served as the central headquarters of the Pokémon League itself.

Located in the northwest of Kanto, its elevation was so immense that most Pokémon couldn't fly high enough to reach it. Only the southern land route allowed access.

For generations, League Conferences had been held here.

It was known as the true Road to the Champion.

A winding river cascaded down from the plateau, forming the roaring and crystal-clear Tohjo Falls—the boundary between Kanto and Johto.

Standing atop Indigo Plateau and looking westward, one could glimpse the towering silver-white mountain range wrapped in emerald forests—

Mt. Silver.

The Johto League branch.

The gathering place of Tyranitar.

Taking it all in, a fierce ambition ignited within Peter's chest.

One day—

He would stand atop the summit and look down upon all mountains beneath him.

It was afternoon when they arrived.

Before the grand hall stood two rows of guards in solemn formation. Massive stone pillars lined the pathway, their moss-covered carvings whispering of ancient tradition.

"Let's go. The Chairmen are probably getting impatient," Lance said, striding forward.

At the end of the path stood towering doors engraved with a blazing phoenix spreading its wings—

Moltres.

In early Kanto history, before the region possessed its own primary Legendary deity, Moltres—the bringer of spring's warmth—became a symbol of faith.

The sacred flame of the Indigo Conference was said to be passed down from it.

The heavy doors creaked open.

Peter's eyes took in the scene inside.

The circular grand hall was nearly full.

In the front row sat several white-haired elders—along with Kanto's Elite Four. One central seat on the left was vacant—clearly reserved for Lance.

Behind them sat professors in white coats, elderly Nurse Joys, Officer Jennys, suited council members, and journalists armed with cameras and microphones.

Whitney tightened her grip on Peter's hand.

"H-Honey… I'm nervous…"

"I've got you."

Peter patted her hand reassuringly, exchanged a glance with Lance, and walked calmly to the front.

In an instant—

All eyes fell upon him.

Peter's expression remained steady as he met their gazes one by one, matching faces with memory.

Chairman of the League Conference—Charles Goodshow.

Chairman of the Galar League—Rose.

Chairpersons from other regions.

Former Kanto Elite Four members now senior advisors:

Ice-type Elite Four Lorelei,

Ghost-type Elite Four Agatha.

Current Elite Four:

Fighting-type Bruno,

Dark-type Karen,

Psychic-type Will,

Poison-type Koga.

Academic giants: Professor Oak, alongside his students Professor Elm and Professor Cerise, and Oak's colleague Professor Ivy.

In the same row sat Professor Sycamore, responsible for Mega Evolution research in Kalos, and Professor Magnolia, overseeing Dynamax research in Galar.

Cynthia sat elegantly beside Rose.

And beside her—

A tall, blue-haired man with a beard and sharp eyes.

Sun-bronzed skin.

An unforgettable presence.

The Champion of Galar—

Leon.

Peter's expression flickered.

He hadn't expected to see so many legendary figures gathered in one place.

To be honest—

Even a Masters Eight final might not assemble this many long-established powerhouses.

"Everyone," Cynthia began smoothly, offering Peter a subtle wink,

"standing before you is Mr. Peter—the individual who discovered the controllable methods of Mega Evolution and Dynamax.

I won't introduce everyone present. Instead, I invite Mr. Peter to present a brief report on his research findings."

Peter cleared his throat.

"Well… my girlfriend's been standing for a while. Could we get her a chair first?"

"Ah—!"

Whitney's face turned crimson instantly.

A ripple of laughter spread through the hall.

Lorelei chuckled, her figure swaying slightly.

"This young man's rather interesting~"

Agatha tapped her cane lightly.

"I hear he's Norman's student. Seems Norman's eye for talent hasn't dulled."

After Whitney was seated, Peter began.

"Mega Evolution is essentially the release of a Pokémon's hidden power. Based on my research, several conditions are required:

A Mega Stone that stores the hidden energy,

A deep bond between Trainer and Pokémon,

And a Key Stone that channels that bond…"

He displayed the stones in his hand.

At his waist, a Poké Ball opened.

Lopunny emerged.

"After Mega Evolution, a Pokémon's offensive and defensive stats, speed, and sometimes even typing or ability may change."

Before he could continue—

Karen raised a hand.

"Hold on. You say they change. How exactly do you prove that?"

Peter smiled calmly.

"That part's simple."

He stepped forward.

And prepared to demonstrate.
