Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: The Legendary Refresh

The Legendary Refresh was a special reward the system granted once per month.

And it wasn't calculated by a rolling thirty-day cycle—it always reset on the first day of the month.

Similarly, the Gym-level Refresh reset once a week.

Specifically—every Monday.

Chen Ran had timed this perfectly.

"System, use the Legendary Refresh!"

He rubbed his hands together, eyes bright with anticipation.

A Legendary Refresh didn't just come with a guarantee—

It refreshed nine items at once.

No matter the quality.

For Chen Ran, this was pure profit.

"Ding! The flash-sale shelf has been refreshed!"

As usual, the system's familiar chime sounded.

On the flash-sale interface, flashy animations swept across the screen.

The previously empty shelves instantly filled with nine items, glowing in different colors.

One gold.

Two red.

Three purple.

Three blue.

"It dropped!"

"It's a huge pull!"

Chen Ran couldn't help but pump his fist in excitement.

With freshman training right around the corner, if he wanted to secure first place, he needed the system's help.

And this Legendary Refresh had arrived at the perfect moment.

Even better—

Every single item was high quality.

"Gold means Legendary-tier, red is Champion-tier, purple is Elite-tier, and blue is Gym-tier."

"This time, it's not an empty pull!"

In Chen Ran's book, pulling white items was the real disaster.

This refresh, though?

Pure gold.

"Let's start with the three blue items."

His usual routine.

Bitter first, sweet later.

Only after enduring the lowest tier did the excitement truly hit—that was the contrast.

---

[Water Stone] (Gym-tier / Blue)

Effect: A stone that can evolve certain Pokémon.

(Compatible with: Poliwhirl, Shellder, Staryu, Eevee, Lombre, Panpour)

Flash-sale price: ¥7.20

---

Another Evolution Stone.

While Chen Ran couldn't use it himself right now, Chen Xiang owned a Lotad, which evolved into Lombre—and to evolve further, it needed a Water Stone.

In the past, Chen Ran would've sold something like this immediately for cash.

But now?

Money wasn't an issue.

The system-produced Water Stone was top quality—whether saved for Chen Xiang's Lotad in the future or stored for some other destined Pokémon, it was valuable either way.

Still…

After thinking it over, Chen Ran realized he didn't currently own any of the listed Water-type Pokémon himself.

"Whatever."

"I'll buy it."

It was cheap anyway.

No pressure.

The other two blue items were Psychic-type Energy Cubes and a Great Ball.

"My little one gets to upgrade her home again."

With less than ¥15, Chen Ran had picked up items worth hundreds of thousands.

The system truly lived up to its reputation as a charity machine.

Next—

The purple items.

"Let's go!"

Chen Ran tapped them all at once.

With this many items, he couldn't be bothered opening them slowly.

---

[Spell Tag Fragment] (Elite-tier / Purple)

Effect: A Ghost-type held item. Increases the power of Ghost-type moves by 20%.

(Collect five fragments to combine into a complete Spell Tag.)

Flash-sale price: ¥13.00

---

Spell Tag.

Chen Ran knew this one well.

A rare Ghost-type item that significantly boosted damage output.

"Buy it."

"This can go to Gengar, Aegislash, or even something like Hydreigon later."

Every Pokémon he'd just named was absurdly rare in the real world.

Ghost-types were already hard to encounter, harder to capture, and even harder to train.

Not to mention Gengar's notoriously wild temperament, Aegislash, which only appeared in ancient ruin-type secret realms, or Hydreigon, a pseudo-legendary rarer than Dragonite or Garchomp.

Thinking about it—

None of that sounded illegal, right?

Chen Ran chuckled and moved on.

---

[Will-O-Wisp Learning Machine] (Elite-tier / Purple)

Effect: Inflicts damage with ghostly flames and may inflict Burn.

If the target is already affected by a status condition, the move's power is doubled.

Flash-sale price: ¥15.25

---

A Ghost-type move Learning Machine.

"But it uses flames…"

"I'm not sure if Charmander can learn this."

He decided to test it later.

Otherwise, it would just collect dust.

The final purple item was a Top-tier Energy Cube Pack.

Its effect was simple: instantly restore stamina and grant a large amount of experience.

"I'm buying this too."

This was practically a combat accelerator.

If Charmander ever hit exhaustion, this would bring him right back to full strength and let him keep fighting.

"Next—red items."

Two of them.

Both Champion-tier.

"Please let there be a Pokémon…"

Chen Ran silently prayed.

Unfortunately, no Pokémon appeared among the two items.

But the drops were still incredible.

---

[Dragon Fang] (Champion-tier / Red)

Effect: A sharp fang left behind by a Champion-level Dragon-type Pokémon.

Increases the power of Dragon-type moves by 20%

(The exact boost may fluctuate by ±10% depending on compatibility.)

Flash-sale price: ¥23.76

---

Nice.

A powerful held item.

Though what Chen Ran needed most right now was a Fire-type boost—not Dragon-type.

"When Charmander evolves into Charizard, Dragon Fang would work best with Mega Charizard X."

"But I still prefer Mega Charizard Y—that special-attack monster."

Mega X was undeniably cool, with its black-and-blue flames.

But Mega Charizard Y, backed by god-tier special attack, had terrifying output.

Besides—

Chen Ran suspected his Charizard might have even more forms in the future.

"Like some kind of EX Form or SS Form from certain games…"

That would require further research—and plenty of exploration with Charmander.

The Dragon Fang could wait.

Then—

His eyes widened.

The second red item was exactly what he'd been hoping for.

---

[Charcoal] (Champion-tier / Red)

Effect: Residual fuel from special fireworks.

Increases the power of Fire-type moves by 20%

(The exact boost may fluctuate by ±10% depending on compatibility.)

Flash-sale price: ¥23.76

---

Charcoal!

It really was Charcoal.

Chen Ran bought it instantly, without hesitation.

"Charmander's Fire-type damage is already insane."

"Add Charcoal on top of that, and even Water-types won't be able to handle it!"

His heart raced.

Confidence surged.

With this setup, freshman training was practically begging to be conquered.

"And now…"

"The final item."

"The Legendary-tier pull."

"Don't let me down."

"…"
