Fresh off the heels of Daniel's gathering, the summer internship landed just forty-eight hours later.
A message arrived early Monday morning, just past nine. Sarah Chen - she leads the brain science team - was behind it.
"Brooklyn - Summer research position. Paid. Full-time. CBT study. Interested?"
A full ten minutes passed while my eyes stayed fixed on that thing.
Paid work. Actual studies. Mine by trade. Research that counts.
Everything I'd wanted.
Lucas got it from me.
Me: "Research position this summer."
Lucas: "Incredible! Taking it?"
Me: "Don't know. Planned to go home."
Lucas: "I'm staying. Art residency. All summer."
A twist inside me caught my breath.
Me: "You're staying?"
Lucas: "Paid studio, sculpture for student center. Said yes. But don't decide based on me. This is YOUR opportunity."
Me: "What if I want to stay for both reasons?"
Lucas: "Then I'm the luckiest guy alive."
