Day Three
Finding me ready by the door, Lucas arrived right on time - seven exactly. His car idled at the curb while morning light bled through the trees.
It has been seventy two hours now since things ended with Daniel. Since then, each day has stretched out beside Lucas instead. Not a single thought about Daniel slipped through.
Truth is, I did think of him. Just not much. More like remembering an old book you finished years ago. Without wishing it had more pages. Never wondering what came next. Rarely at all, really.
Just - closed.
Lights caught his eyes first thing, then he smiled. Beautiful you look, was what Lucas told me right after I pulled the door open.
It started with me giving it a go tonight. First thing was makeup. Then came the dress. Swapped out my cartoon cat sneakers for heels.
"You clean up nice too."
