Chapter 118 - Chapter 118: First Meeting with Bruce Wayne

The atmosphere inside the hospital room was quiet, yet heavy.

Machines emitted faint rhythmic beeps, and the sterile scent of medicine lingered in the air. The dim lighting cast long shadows across the white walls, making the entire space feel both calm and tense at the same time.

On the bed lay Barbara.

Her condition was stable, but clearly serious.

Her right arm was tightly wrapped in bandages, immobilized against her side, while her left leg rested in a cast, slightly elevated. Though her face showed signs of fatigue, her eyes were sharp—alert, observant, and very much awake.

Standing beside her were two men.

One tall.

One slightly shorter.

But both… extraordinary.

The taller man stood with a natural authority that didn't need to be announced.

He wore a perfectly tailored suit—expensive, understated, and elegant. A luxury watch rested on his wrist, glinting subtly under the light. His posture was relaxed, yet there was a quiet tension beneath it, like a coiled spring ready to act at any moment.

His eyes were the most striking feature.

Deep blue.

Not bright.

Not soft.

But unfathomable.

They were the kind of eyes that seemed to see through everything while revealing nothing in return.

The second man, though slightly shorter, carried a different kind of presence.

He wore simple, comfortable clothes—nothing flashy, nothing extravagant. Yet somehow, his natural charisma made him stand out just as much as the man beside him.

His face was more openly expressive.

His eyes—

Also blue.

But unlike the first man's depth, his gaze was clear.

Honest.

Pure.

If one represented calculation—

The other represented trust.

Two people.

Same color eyes.

Completely opposite impressions.

---

Clang.

The sudden sound of the door opening broke the stillness.

Dean and Cassandra stood at the entrance.

For a brief moment, both sides simply looked at each other.

Then—

Recognition.

"Dick?"

Dean spoke first, surprise flashing across his face as he immediately recognized the familiar figure.

The shorter man turned sharply.

"Dean?" he replied, equally surprised. "What are you doing here?"

His gaze shifted behind Dean.

"And… who's that with you?"

At the same time—

Barbara's attention had already locked onto Cassandra.

"Cassandra!" she called out, her tone filled with both relief and confusion. "How did you get here?"

Her eyes moved between the two.

"And why are you with Dean?"

The questions came almost at the same time.

Dean raised both hands slightly, giving a helpless smile.

"Heh… can we maybe take turns?" he said. "Or at least combine the questions a little?"

"So many at once—I don't even know where to start."

Dick rolled his eyes.

"Just start from the beginning."

"Alright," Dean nodded.

He took a breath and explained calmly.

"I went to the library today to read. That's where I met Cassandra. She needed a bit of help, so I helped her out. That's how we met."

He glanced at Cassandra briefly before continuing.

"Then we heard from the librarian that Barbara was hospitalized, so we decided to come visit."

Simple.

Direct.

No unnecessary details.

"Okay…" Dick said slowly, processing the information. "But why bring Cassandra here specifically?"

It was clear.

He didn't know anything about Cassandra.

Barbara, however, did.

She hesitated for a moment.

Then glanced at Cassandra.

Cassandra gave a small nod.

That was enough.

Barbara turned back to the others and began explaining.

"Cassandra… has had a difficult life," she said softly. "She's been on her own since she was very young."

Her voice lowered slightly.

"She never went to school. She doesn't speak."

Dean remained silent, listening carefully.

"One day," Barbara continued, "I saw her standing outside the library window. Just… watching."

She smiled faintly at the memory.

"So I invited her in."

"And after that," she added, "she started coming regularly. I began teaching her how to read."

The room grew quieter.

Even Dick's expression softened.

Dean, however—

Frowned slightly.

Something felt… off.

Barbara had explained Cassandra's past.

Her struggles.

Her connection to the library.

But—

She never mentioned Cassandra's combat ability.

Not even once.

Dean's eyes shifted subtly between Barbara and Cassandra.

That didn't make sense.

He had personally witnessed Cassandra's strength.

And not just a little—

It was terrifyingly precise.

If it was a secret, then why had Cassandra shown it so openly earlier?

They had just met.

There was no reason for that level of trust.

But if it wasn't a secret—

Then why didn't Barbara mention it?

There were only two possibilities.

Either—

Barbara truly didn't know.

Or—

She was deliberately hiding it.

Dean leaned slightly back, his thoughts racing.

It was possible.

If Barbara only interacted with Cassandra at the library during the day…

And spent her nights elsewhere—

Then maybe…

Just maybe—

She had never seen Cassandra fight.

---

"Your name is Cassandra, right?"

A deep, calm voice suddenly broke through Dean's thoughts.

Dean turned his head.

The tall man had moved.

He now stood directly in front of Cassandra.

Up close, his presence felt even heavier.

Not oppressive—

But undeniable.

Cassandra looked up at him.

Then nodded quietly.

The man gave a gentle smile.

"I am Bruce Wayne," he said. "If you ever need help, you can go to the Wayne Foundation."

His tone was warm.

Sincere.

"There are welfare programs for children in need," he continued. "You'll receive monthly support, housing, and free education."

It was a perfect offer.

Clear.

Kind.

Without any pressure.

At that exact moment—

Dean noticed something strange.

Out of the corner of his eye—

Both Dick and Barbara's expressions twitched.

Just for a second.

It was subtle.

But unmistakable.

Dean narrowed his eyes slightly.

Interesting.

Cassandra, however, didn't react much.

She simply shook her head gently.

Then raised her hands and made a few quiet gestures.

Bruce watched carefully.

Then nodded.

"I understand," he said softly.

He didn't push further.

But his expression changed slightly.

A hint of something—

Regret?

Perhaps.

"That offer will always stand," he added.

Cassandra nodded once.

That was the end of it.

---

Bruce turned slightly, his gaze drifting for a moment.

His thoughts deepened.

Helping people in Gotham…

Was never simple.

Even when help was genuine—

Even when systems were transparent—

Even when everything was done right—

People still hesitated.

They distrusted.

They avoided.

They walked away.

Bruce knew why.

Gotham had taught them that.

Even though—

The Wayne Foundation operated under strict oversight.

Every fund tracked.

Every expense monitored.

Corruption minimized to near zero.

Still—

The damage was already done.

People didn't believe in charity anymore.

They preferred small cash handouts.

Temporary relief.

Rather than long-term support.

Education.

Stability.

Hope.

Bruce had spent years trying to change that.

Investing in infrastructure.

Improving healthcare.

Creating jobs.

Lowering costs of living.

He had fought his own board countless times.

Pushed decisions others opposed.

Risked his position more than once.

And yet—

Gotham only improved during the day.

At night—

Everything changed.

Crime returned.

Violence resurfaced.

The city became something else entirely.

A cycle.

Endless.

Unbreakable.

Bruce had asked himself many times—

Why?

But even he—

Couldn't find the answer.

---

"Mr. Wayne!"

Dean's voice suddenly cut through the silence.

Bruce turned.

Dean stepped forward slightly, his expression bright with genuine excitement.

"I never thought I'd meet you here," he said honestly. "I've seen you on the news so many times. Dick talks about you a lot too."

He smiled.

"I've wanted to meet you for a long time. I didn't expect it to happen like this."

There was no exaggeration in his tone.

No pretense.

Just pure sincerity.

Because standing in front of him—

Wasn't just a billionaire.

Wasn't just a philanthropist.

It was Batman.

The legend.

The symbol.

The man who stood at the center of Gotham's darkness.

In Dean's previous life, he had heard countless stories about him.

Seen countless versions.

Debates.

Praise.

Criticism.

But one thing never changed—

Batman was always extraordinary.

And now—

Dean was standing face to face with him.

Of course he was excited.

Of course he was curious.

Of course—

He couldn't stay calm.

Because this moment—

Was the beginning of something far bigger than a simple hospital visit.
