The frozen mud under the creature's legs burst apart.
Without any warning, the creature charged, far too fast for a body that big.
'Here it comes.'
Revan stayed low and went forward to meet it.
Down came a bone scythe bigger than a man's torso, heavy enough to cut a warhorse in half. Blocking it with plain steel would shatter his arms and leave him open. So he ducked until his left knee brushed the frost and tilted his blade. His sword's flat side slid along the underside of the monster's forearm.
SHREEE!
Sparks flew as steel scraped against bone. Revan twisted with the contact. The creature's own strength carried the strike past his shoulder and into the ground. There, it punched a small crater right where he had been standing.
Revan had seen its speed from a distance. Up close, the real danger was the reach. Those scythes covered twice the distance of his sword, so every attack of his had to start inside them.
That missed swing had pulled its weight too far forward.
