One Hour Later:-

I was going to die of boredom.

The first ten minutes had been productive; I finished my own homework at an unnatural speed thanks to my high Intelligence stat, and helped Isa finish hers. But after that? There was absolutely nothing to do.

For a solid hour, the clubroom was dead quiet, save for the scratching of Rias's pen as she did student council paperwork.

To keep myself from going crazy, I slipped into a meditative state to boost my mana regeneration and started grinding my [Illusion] tree.

Illusion was, by far, the most frustrating school of magic to level up. In the Skyrim dungeon, low-level spells like Fury or Courage simply bounced off the high-level Draugr and monsters I was fighting.

On the flip side, I couldn't practice on humans in the real world, because casting Fury on a random civilian would cause a violent riot.

So, my only option was to repeatedly cast the base manifestation of the spell into my palm without actually targeting anyone.

I held my left hand under the table, letting a swirling, hypnotic ball of green light form over my knuckles, holding it for ten seconds, and letting it dissipate.

Over and over. I had hit Level 20 yesterday, and I was determined to inch it to Level 25 before dinner.

Fwish. Fade. Fwish. Fade.

I could feel the stares. Every time the green light flared, Kiba's hand twitched toward his sword. Koneko hadn't blinked in twenty minutes.

Even Rias kept pausing her paperwork to subtly watch me manipulate raw magicka like I was playing with a fidget spinner.

Finally, the clubroom door opened.

Akeno glided in, walking straight over to Rias. She leaned down, whispering something quietly into the crimson-haired devil's ear.

Rias's eyes lit up. A genuine, predatory smile spread across her face.

"Finally," Rias sighed, dropping her pen and standing up. "Something to do besides paperwork."

Everyone in the room instantly snapped to attention. Kiba sheathed his sword. Koneko swallowed the rest of her chocolate.

"Listen up, everyone," Rias announced, her aura flaring with authority. "A Stray Devil has forsaken her master and is currently hiding out in an abandoned warehouse on the edge of town. We have been contracted to deal with the problem. Get ready. We leave right now."

The energy in the room shifted from stagnant to lethal in a heartbeat.

I just sat on the couch, canceling my Illusion spell. Isa stood up, looking nervous but determined. Before following the others to the magical teleportation circle Akeno was drawing on the floor, Isa stopped and looked back at me.

"Aren't you coming?" Isa asked. She turned to Rias, hesitating. "Buchou... can Shiro come?"

Rias paused at the edge of the glowing red circle. She looked at me, her cyan eyes gleaming with a calculating, proud light.

"Under normal circumstances, I would never allow a human to join us on a hunt. It's too dangerous," Rias said smoothly. "However... since Shiro is clearly not a normal human, I will allow it."

Isa beamed.

Rias offered me a challenging smirk. "I think it might be an educational experience for you, Shiro. You could finally see the true power of my peerage in action."

It was a blatant trap. She was using this to show off, to intimidate me with the destructive capability of her team.

I looked at my empty homework folder, then looked at the glowing teleportation circle. Honestly? I didn't care about her posturing. I was just happy for the distraction.

"I'm always ready for a fight," I said, my voice deadpan.

I didn't bother changing my clothes. Instead, I just mentally opened my inventory. I reached my hand out into empty air, my fingers wrapping around the hilt of the heavy, golden Dwarven Sword I had received from the Jarl.

With my other hand, I pulled out a simple silver ring enchanted with a minor magicka boost and slipped it onto my finger.

I caught the entire peerage staring at me. Kiba's eyes were locked onto the space where the sword had just materialized, her jaw slightly slack. I smirked inwardly. I wonder if it would be funny if I pulled out a full set of heavy steel armor right now?

Maybe later. I didn't want to completely break their brains just yet.

"Alright," Rias said, shaking her head to clear her surprise. She stepped into the center of the glowing red teleportation circle on the floor. "Is everyone inside the circle?"

We all nodded. The crimson light flared, rushing up to swallow us.

A second later, the pristine environment of the clubroom was replaced by the damp, rotting smell of an abandoned warehouse on the industrial outskirts of Kuoh. The air was thick with dust and the unmistakable, suffocating stench of sulfur and dried blood.

Rias turned to Isa and me, her tone shifting into a strict, commanding register. "Listen closely. I brought you both here to observe. All I want you to do is watch how we operate and learn how a Stray Devil fights. Do not engage. Understood?"

I let out a soft, amused chuckle, leaning the flat of my Dwarven Sword against my shoulder. Sure, Rias. I'll just watch.

We stepped deeper into the cavernous building.

The Devils fanned out, their eyes scanning the dark rafters and the shadows behind the shipping containers.

But I didn't need to look. My [Presence] skill was already screaming at me, pinpointing a massive, hostile magical signature lurking just above us in the gloom.

"She's right there," I muttered, not even bothering to point.

From the darkness of the second-floor catwalk, the Stray Devil dropped down, landing heavily on the concrete.

The creature was a grotesque, terrifying chimera. Her lower half was that of a massive, heavily muscled beast, standing on thick lion-like legs.

But from the waist up, she retained the body of a human woman, entirely naked, highly endowed, and wearing a sickeningly sultry, hungry grin.

For a split second, the tension in the room was palpable.

And then, Isa completely shattered it.

"Whoa!" Isa gasped, pointing directly at the Stray Devil with wide, sparkling eyes. "I see big boobies!!!"
