The three of them began to walk out.
The echoes of the man's words still swirled in the heavy air of the main control room, every syllable carrying a nauseating coldness and selfishness.
"Eaten them all."
An understated phrase, yet it painted a picture of a bloodily unparalleled feast of slaughter.
In the minds of Noah and Claire, the image of that hideous Queen Bee from the surveillance video, crazily devouring its own kind, surfaced almost simultaneously.
This man had hidden in the safety of the observation room, listening to the screams of his companions being torn apart and devoured outside, waiting for it all to end with a clear conscience.
Claire's fists were clenched so tightly her knuckles turned white.
She really wanted to punch him and shatter those thick lenses on the man's face.
Noah, however, appeared unusually calm. He merely looked up, his gaze passing through the man to land on a still-running server terminal deep within the main control room.
"Is the Authorization Chip for this area in your hands?"
Noah's voice lacked any emotional fluctuation, as if he were stating a fact that had nothing to do with him.
The white man's body suddenly stiffened for a moment.
His eyes, hidden behind dirty lenses, flickered rapidly as a light called 'calculation' replaced his previous fear.
"What?"
He asked back, feigning confusion.
"Oh... oh! You mean the key!"
He slapped his forehead exaggeratedly, his face once again piling on that disgusting, fawning smile.
"Yes, yes, yes! It's with me, it's with me!"
As he spoke, he reached into the pocket of his crumpled white lab coat, fumbling around cautiously.
He treated that chip as his only bargaining chip for survival.
He believed that as long as the chip was in his hands, these two 'rescue personnel' of unknown origin would never dare to do anything to him.
They might even have to treat him like an ancestor, safely escorting him out.
"Look, it's this."
He finally pulled his hand out of his pocket and opened his palm.
A hexagonal storage chip, glowing with a faint green light, lay quietly in his palm.
He took a few steps back, creating distance between himself, Noah, and Claire.
Then, triumphantly, he waved the chip in front of Noah and Claire, his expression like a child showing off his favorite toy.
"As long as we have this, we can—"
His words stopped abruptly.
CRACK—!!!!
A tooth-aching loud sound of glass exploding came without warning from his side.
The huge metal instrument next to him, which looked like some kind of sample reactor, had its reinforced observation window—several inches thick—bulge outward as spider-web-like cracks instantly covered the entire surface.
Immediately following.
BANG—!!!!
The glass was completely shattered from the inside out by an irresistible, massive force.
Countless glass shards shot out in all directions like buckshot.
A huge, hideous giant claw covered in shiny black carapace, resembling a praying mantis's sickle, shot out like lightning from the broken window of the reactor, accompanied by a strong, fishy wind.
The giant claw's target was precise and clear.
It was the triumphant, calculating white man.
SQUELCH—!
The sound of sharp claws piercing flesh was dull and distinct.
The white man's body jerked violently.
The triumph on his face froze.
Slowly, he lowered his head.
That hideous, metallic-glinting giant claw had entered from his back and pierced through his chest.
On the tip of the claw hung a bloody heart that was still feebly beating.
"Ugh..."
An unintelligible, wheezing sound came from his throat.
Then he looked up, his bloodshot eyes staring fixedly at Noah and Claire.
There was no more calculation in his eyes, no more triumph.
Only endless, pure fear of death remained.
And a thick, inseparable sense of absurd despair: 'Why me?'
AHHHH—!!!!
The next second, the extreme pain finally broke through his numbed nerves.
A shrill scream that didn't sound human, mixed with pain and despair, resounded throughout the area.
The giant claw suddenly retracted.
A massive force dragged his entire person toward that dark, broken reactor window.
"Save... save me..."
His hand, still clutching the chip, reached out desperately toward Noah.
But it was too late.
His body was ruthlessly dragged bit by bit into the bottomless darkness of the reactor by that giant claw.
The last thing he left in this world was that terrifying scream of being torn apart alive, echoing continuously in the cramped space.
Ding.
A soft sound.
The green chip slipped from his loosened hand, hitting the cold metal floor and spinning.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye.
Noah didn't even look at the man's end.
The moment the giant claw appeared, he had already stepped sideways, blocking Claire.
Now, the screaming had stopped.
He bent down and, expressionless, picked up the chip that still carried the man's body heat.
Claire's face was somewhat pale.
She wasn't frightened.
She simply couldn't understand that kind of pure, senseless evil that took pleasure in cruel slaughter.
She took a deep breath and looked at Noah.
"Let's go." Noah nodded.
He glanced at the dark reactor.
Inside, there were scalp-numbing sounds—the 'crack-crack' of bones being chewed and the 'gulp-gulp' of flesh being greedily swallowed.
Without the slightest hesitation.
The two turned and quickly left this place filled with the stench of death.
Claire unbuckled the heavy mounting straps of the Flamethrower on her body.
Click.
The weapon that had just incinerated evil, along with its nearly full fuel tank, was left on the ground by her.
It was too heavy and too clumsy.
The path ahead required more speed and agility.
Having shed the heavy burden, Claire felt her body become much lighter.
She followed in Noah's footsteps, the two of them one after the other along the path they came, quickly racing toward the end of the Observation Area.
The cold metal corridor receded rapidly beneath their feet.
The emergency lights on the walls cast flickering light, stretching their shadows long and short.
They didn't speak.
But each other's breathing and those hurried, forceful footsteps formed a wordless understanding.
Soon, they returned to the circular Observation Area corridor.
Through the thick bulletproof glass, they could see the huge sector-shaped experimental zone that had been purified by fire.
Right now, that charred land looked exceptionally empty and exceptionally eerie.
They knew the monster that had eaten the Researcher was currently in some corner of this area.
Perhaps it was the Queen, or perhaps it was just an ordinary member of the swarm.
But regardless, they had no time to think about these things.
They rushed at top speed to the electronic sign they had seen earlier, marked as leading to the 'Quarantine Zone'.
At the end of the sign was a huge industrial Lift Door made entirely of alloy.
That was the main passage to leave this Incubation Nest.
Noah rushed to the door and swiped the green chip he had just acquired across the sensor panel.
Beep—Authentication passed.
A cold electronic voice sounded.
The indicator light above the Lift Door turned from red to green.
Vrrr—
A heavy, tooth-aching sound of metal friction rang out.
The massive Lift Door began to slowly rise upward.
A faint light from another space filtered in from outside the door.
Hope was right before their eyes.
Noah and Claire's hearts were in their throats.
The Lift Door had risen to about a quarter of its height, enough for a person to duck through.
Just then.
SPLASH—!!!
A heavy sound, like a weight falling to the ground, came suddenly from above their heads.
Immediately after, a large amount of a thick, amber-colored liquid with a strong, foul stench fell from above like a waterfall.
That mucus landed squarely in the gap between the rising Lift Door and the door frame.
Sizzle—
The contact between the mucus and the metal produced a sharp sound like strong acid corrosion, and clouds of white smoke rose.
The slowly rising Lift Door made an overburdened, piercing 'creak'.
Then it became stuck right there, unable to move.
[Warning! Warning! Unknown error in the Lift Door drive System!]
[The System will automatically close and restart within one minute...]
The piercing alarm, accompanied by the cold electronic voice, echoed throughout the space.
The Lift Door that had just brought hope actually began to slowly close downward amidst the alarm.
Noah and Claire almost simultaneously whipped their heads around.
They looked toward the direction from which the mucus had fallen.
Not far behind them, in the mid-air of the empty sector-shaped experimental zone.
A monster so huge it was beyond imagination was quietly suspended there.
Its body was a full six meters long; it seemed that its constant feeding had caused it to grow significantly.
Its form was an ultimate, enlarged version of the 'Rosépines de Versailles' from the 3D model.
The Blood Lily Queen.
Its black carapace, shimmering with a dark metallic luster, reflected the cold light of the emergency lamps.
That pair of huge bony hooked claws, like the scythes of a grim reaper, were leisurely rubbing against each other, making a'shasha' sound.
And in its hideous, constantly opening and closing mouthparts, it was still chewing on half a bloody human torso wearing a white lab coat.
It was the Researcher who had just been dragged into the reactor.
The Queen seemed to really enjoy this'snack'.
It swallowed the half-torso in a few bites and then let out a satisfied hiss.
Its huge compound eyes, composed of countless tiny crystal lattices, swiveled to lock onto Noah and Claire below.
There was no anger in those eyes, no hatred.
Only a greed for food.
Its plump, bee-like abdomen trembled slightly.
The thick liquid that had just sealed the Lift Door had clearly been sprayed from there.
The Lift Door was slowly closing.
Before them was the top-tier, most terrifying biological weapon in this base.
"Do it!"
Noah gave a low shout.
Without any hesitation, he instantly drew the desert eagle from his waist.
Claire's reaction was equally swift.
Her Samurai's Edge was unsheathed at the same time.
The muzzle of the mp5 submachine gun in her other hand was already aimed at the massive target in the air.
BANG!
"Da da da da da—!"
The dull roar of the desert eagle and the crisp strafing of the mp5 submachine gun rang out almost at the same time.
Two tongues of fire intertwined, tearing through the heavy air and shooting accurately toward the Queen's relatively soft, massive abdomen.
However.
Just a split second before the bullets were about to hit.
The Queen's body simply flickered eerily in the air.
Its speed was so fast that it exceeded the realm of physics.
That seemingly heavy, massive body traced a blurred afterimage in the air that was almost impossible to catch with the naked eye.
Without exception, all the bullets missed.
Most of them hit the thick bulletproof glass behind it, triggering a dense series of clinking sounds and leaving behind patches of cracks.
The Queen let out a contemptuous, mocking hiss.
Its wings flapped violently.
"Buzz—!!!!"
A powerful surge of air instantly descended from the sky.
Its figure turned into a bolt of black lightning, diving toward Noah and Claire.
Those massive, death-scythe-like bone claws let out two shrill whistles as they tore through the air.
"Scatter!" Noah roared.
Neither of them lingered to fight, simultaneously diving out in two different directions.
"Boom—!!!"
Right where they had been standing, the Queen's massive claws slammed heavily onto the hard metal floor.
Sparks flew in all directions.
Two hideous claw marks, several inches deep, appeared on the alloy floor.
Failing to hit with one strike, the Queen appeared somewhat irritable.
It didn't pursue either of them; instead, it locked its target on Noah, who seemed to be the greater threat.
Its wings vibrated again, and its massive body stayed close to the ground, charging toward Noah like an out-of-control heavy truck.
At this moment, Noah's brain was working at high speed.
Its speed was too fast and its power too strong; a direct confrontation would definitely be a dead end.
Weakness... the weakness is in the abdomen.
But I can't hit it at all.
What other weaknesses are there?
Sound waves!
That Infrasound Matrix Generator!
74.4 Hertz!
The contents of that document instantly flashed through Noah's mind.
The generator is at the main console!
The main console is right in the center of this Observation Area!
A bold, almost insane plan instantly took shape in his mind.
"Claire!"
He shouted loudly toward Claire on the other side while retreating rapidly.
"The console! The red button!"
Claire's reaction was almost instinctive.
Hearing Noah's words, her gaze instantly locked onto the Main Control Console glowing with a faint blue light not far away.
She saw the independent emergency start button covered by a red protective shield.
She instantly understood Noah's idea.
Noah was going to be the bait.
He wanted to lure this terrifying monster into this open Test Zone where there was nowhere to hide.
Then she would activate that lethal sonic weapon to create a one-hit-kill opportunity for him.
This was a plan full of risks.
If any single part went wrong, Noah would be instantly torn to pieces by that monster.
But Claire did not hesitate for a second.
She threw the Grenade Launcher to Noah and then shouted toward his direction.
"Lightning!"
It represented the start of the operation.
Noah knew Claire had grasped his intention.
He stopped retreating and abruptly came to a halt, slinging the Grenade Launcher onto his back.
He turned to face the Queen, who was charging like a black tank.
His gaze became incredibly focused, and the power within his body was pushed to the limit at this moment.
He could even feel his muscles letting out excited, battle-hungry cries.
Seeing that the prey was no longer running but had stopped to provoke it, a flash of bloodthirsty cruelty appeared in the Queen's compound eyes.
Its speed increased once more.
Those massive bone claws were already raised high, prepared to crush this tiny human along with the floor beneath his feet into fine powder.
Now!
Noah's legs suddenly exerted force, and his body shot out like a cannonball—not backward, but lunging toward the Queen's side.
His speed was equally astonishing.
The moment before the Queen's massive claws were about to fall, he brushed past the lethal attack range by a hair's breadth.
"Rumble—!!!"
There was another loud crash.
A huge dent was smashed into the metal floor again, while Noah had already rushed behind the Queen.
He didn't stop, continuing to run toward the massive fan-shaped Test Zone that had been scorched into wasteland.
It was more open there, with more obstacles that could be used for maneuvering.
Missing yet again, the Queen was thoroughly enraged.
It let out a sharp, fury-filled hiss and turned to chase madly in the direction Noah was fleeing.
In its eyes, this extremely fast, constantly provoking little bug was far more threatening than the little girl holding a toy gun.
Claire watched Noah and the Queen's figures as they rushed one after the other into that scorched Hell.
She grit her teeth and rushed toward the Main Control Console at the fastest speed of her life.
Fifty meters.
Forty meters.
Thirty meters.
She could hear the Queen's frantic attacks coming from the Test Zone, as well as the ear-piercing roar of metal being struck and torn apart.
Faster, just a little faster!
Finally, she reached the Main Control Console.
Without even looking at the complex data streams on the screen, she flipped open the red plastic protective cover.
Revealed beneath was a large red button with the words "Emergency Start" engraved on it.
Her hand hovered above the button, trembling slightly.
Her gaze pierced through the thick bulletproof glass, looking toward the vast Test Zone.
Noah's figure was like an agile leopard, constantly dodging and weaving on that scorched land.
Beneath his feet were the remains of transparent culture tanks that had been burned down to their frames.
The Queen was right on his heels, refusing to let go.
Every swing of its massive bone claws could easily smash a sturdy metal frame to pieces.
Countless metal fragments flew through the air accompanied by the Queen's angry roars.
Several times, Noah narrowly escaped those lethal attacks at the critical moment by a hair's breadth.
His figure danced madly under the scythe of death.
Once the Queen entered the sound wave coverage area, Claire immediately used all her strength to slam her palm down onto the red button.
"Buzz—"
There was no earth-shattering explosion.
There was only a low-pitched yet all-penetrating hum that sounded from all directions of the entire Test Zone at once.
It was a frequency so low that the human ear could barely catch it, yet it could make a person's internal organs resonate along with it.
The Queen, which was madly pursuing Noah, suddenly stiffened.
Its bone claws, raised high and ready to launch the next attack, froze right there in mid-air.
"Hiss—!!!!"
A shriek so shrill it was distorted, sounding as if it didn't belong to this dimension, erupted from its mouth.
Its massive compound eyes instantly became bloodshot, turning entirely crimson.
It abandoned Noah and used its two massive bone claws to tightly clutch its own head.
Its body twitched and rolled violently and uncontrollably in the air.
Its wings also lost control, flapping wildly and aimlessly.
Its massive body fell straight down from mid-air.
It slammed heavily onto that scorched land.
It worked!
A sharp glint flashed in Noah's eyes.
Without pausing for a second, he pulled the Grenade Launcher Claire had given him off his back.
Loaded.
Aimed.
The movements were done in one smooth motion.
His target was the soft abdomen of the Queen lying on the ground, struggling madly in pain, which was now exposed and completely defenseless.
"Cloud."
He whispered that code word belonging to her.
Then he pulled the trigger.
"Bang—! Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Four High-Explosive Grenades, trailing thin wisps of smoke, whistled as they tore through the space.
They accurately hit the Queen's abdomen.
"Boom—!!!!"
A deafening explosion instantly rang out.
Orange-red flames, accompanied by a massive shockwave, erupted violently.
The Queen's relatively soft abdomen was blown open into a massive, bloody hole.
Green and yellow viscous liquids with strong corrosive properties, mixed with countless shattered internal organs and carapace fragments, sprayed out madly in all directions like a volcanic eruption.
The Queen's body was thrown high into the air by the explosion.
Its shrill, dying wail echoed through the entire space.
Then it crashed heavily back to the ground.
After twitching a few times, it moved no more.
That Ultimate Biological Weapon, which had plunged the entire base into death and terror,
Was dead.
The hum of the infrasound slowly stopped, and the entire world seemed to fall silent.
Only the heavy, alternating gasps of Noah and Claire remained.
The two looked at each other, both seeing a trace of relief from surviving a disaster in the other's eyes.
But they had no time to celebrate.
The Lift Door that was slowly closing now had only a tiny gap left.
"Flamethrower!" Noah said.
Claire reacted immediately.
She turned and ran to the door of the main control room, shouldering the heavy weapon she had abandoned once more.
Then, without hesitation, she rushed to the Lift Door that was about to close.
She raised the muzzle and aimed it at the large patch of amber-colored mucus on the door that had begun to solidify.
She pulled the trigger.
"Whoosh—!!!!"
The fire dragon of vengeance roared out once again.
High-temperature flames madly licked that viscous, gel-like substance.
Under the scorching of the flames, the mucus rapidly melted and vaporized, letting out a "sizzling" sound and emitting thick clouds of pungent black smoke.
The alarm above the Lift Door was also cleared.
Noah rushed to the control panel and pressed the start button again.
"Buzz—"
Accompanied by a heavy rumble.
The Lift Door, now cleared of obstacles, slowly rose upward once more.
Without the slightest hesitation, the two bent over and quickly slipped through to the other side of the Lift Door.
The door slowly closed behind them.
Completely isolating that Hell full of death, fire, and monster remains behind them.
