The woman who slowly stepped out from the shadows of the room once had blonde hair that shone as bright as sunlight. Now, it was dull and lusterless, messily draped over her shoulders and stained with filth. Her face was as pale as worn paper, and her blue eyes were filled with undiluted terror.

Behind her was a young girl about ten years old, her blonde hair tied into two small, messy pigtails. She gripped her mother's hem tightly, hiding half her body, watching the strangers with weapons through eyes wide with fear.

Time paused. The faint, sweet scent of milk and cookies formed a heart-wrenching, eerie contrast with the miserable appearance of the pair.

Etienne stood as stiff as a statue. In that dead silence, the woman, Sophia, finally spoke in a voice so weak it was almost inaudible.

"Etienne... Is it you?"

That voice shattered Etienne's frozen reason. His silver Beretta slipped from his hand, clattering comically onto the colorful foam mats. He didn't care.

"Sophia..."

He rushed forward, his legs heavy as lead yet feeling boneless. Sophia gushed tears and ran to meet him, pulling their daughter along. Etienne pulled them into a tight, trembling embrace.

"God bless... you really came," Sophia sobbed, her heart finally settling after weeks in the abyss. Angela, caught in the middle, burst into loud sobs of joy and unvented fear. "It's so scary here..."

The family of three wept in their "Paradise," their cries tinting the cartoon murals with sorrow. Noah and Claire stood back, lowering their weapons. In this inhuman Hell, a complete reunion was a luxurious consolation—a ray of sunlight piercing the gloom.

After the sobs subsided, Etienne introduced his saviors. Sophia and Angela bowed deeply, their gratitude beyond words.

"What happened here?" Noah asked, his voice calm.

The question unlocked Sophia's trauma. "Durand is a madman," she whispered, her logic returning through the fear. "He's using prisoners for experiments... creating monsters that shouldn't exist. I found his journal. He isn't doing this for science; he's trying to resurrect his dead wife, Emily."

She looked at the toys and tricycles with extreme disgust. "He deceived the government. He said this was a school for homeless children. In reality... it was an altar. He needs a grand 'ritual' using everyone's lives as sacrifices to bring Emily back."

Sophia explained that Angela had been snatched from her school by bribed drivers. Durand had locked them away, but the base had recently fallen into a chaotic riot. Controlled security guards with dull, hollow eyes began capturing everyone indiscriminately. In the chaos, one guard regained a flicker of clarity, freed them, and stayed behind to draw fire.

"You were smart to stay here," Noah said.

"I'm a researcher, not a soldier," Sophia replied. "I knew we wouldn't make it past the first corner. I bet on Etienne finding my message. We've been hiding here, praying... until you arrived."

Sophia reached into her uniform and produced a hardbound notebook wrapped in plastic. "This is Durand's diary. I took it from his office. It records all his crimes."

Noah stowed the heavy book in his backpack. He looked at Etienne. "Take your family and leave. Take the elevator, then the cable car."

Sophia shook her head painfully. "The cable car is set to one-way traffic. It's locked by the system until released from the main control room. We can't leave that way."

The news doused their hope. Noah and Claire shared a silent understanding.

"Etienne, you stay here," Noah commanded.

"No! I can't—"

"You must," Noah interrupted. "The road ahead is for soldiers. You would be a burden."

Claire stepped forward, her voice soft but heavy with weight. "Etienne, look at them. Their spirits are on the verge of collapse. They don't need a hero; they need a husband and a father. You are the only one who can make them feel safe again. That is more important than facing monsters."

Etienne looked at his family and nodded heavily. The struggle in his eyes was replaced by the responsibility of a father. "I understand. Please... be careful."

Noah and Claire checked their ammunition and returned to the elevator. As the doors began to close, Sophia shouted one last clue: "Durand's office is on Floor B of the Main Zone! His most important secrets are hidden there!"

The elevator rose with a faint hum. The mirrored walls reflected two cold, determined faces.

Ding.

They returned to the grand, empty circular hall. The three massive doors—the T-Virus Breakthrough Zone, NE-Alpha Incubation Nest, and Nemesis Fusion Chamber—glowed with an ominous red light.

Three giant maws, waiting to devour them. Noah and Claire stepped out, weapons ready.
