Maya had only just woken from her sleep when she let out a heavy yawn and slowly pushed herself out of bed. She remained seated for a moment, blinking sleepily as she tried to shake off the lingering drowsiness before finally getting to her feet. She had barely taken a few steps when her body suddenly swayed, and before she could lose her balance, a firm hand caught her around the waist and steadied her.
"You are awake?" the man asked.
Maya turned toward him, her brows drawing together slightly as she looked at his unfamiliar face. She instinctively took a small step back, putting some distance between them. She couldn't remember seeing him among the men she had been with the previous night, and although her memories of the night were still somewhat blurred, she was certain she would have remembered him.
"Mnnh…" she hummed uncertainly, continuing to study him.
The man seemed to notice her confusion and quickly explained, "Mother asked me to wake you up."
