Her voice trembled ever so slightly.
For one endless moment...
Nothing happened.
The room fell completely still.
Even the familiar rhythm of the heart monitor seemed louder than before.
Then...
His eyelashes trembled.
It was the smallest movement imaginable, yet to the three people watching him, it felt as though the entire world had suddenly stopped turning.
Slowly...
Painfully...
His eyelids began to lift.
Bright morning light flooded his vision immediately, forcing him to squint as blurred shapes slowly emerged from the haze surrounding him. The unfamiliar white ceiling overhead gradually came into focus, followed by the sterile scent of disinfectant, the soft humming of medical equipment, and the rhythmic beeping that seemed to echo from somewhere close beside him.
His brows knitted together in confusion.
Nothing looked familiar.
