A soft click echoed through the room. Before Takoda's astonished eyes, part of the bookshelf slowly swung inward, revealing a narrow doorway concealed behind it. Her mouth fell open. "A secret room?" Lily nodded proudly before slipping inside. "My grandfather built it just for me." Takoda followed close behind, unable to hide her amazement.
Although the room was small, it felt wonderfully cozy. Soft cushions covered the floor beneath a wide window that overlooked the gardens, while little shelves displayed storybooks, beautifully carved toys, painted ornaments, and tiny treasures collected over the years.
Bundles of dried lavender and wildflowers hung neatly from the ceiling, filling the little hideaway with a pleasant fragrance that made it feel peaceful and safe. Takoda slowly turned in a complete circle, trying to take in every tiny detail before smiling so brightly that her eyes almost disappeared. "It's beautiful."
