The call ended. Kade handed the phone back to Marcus without a word. Marcus accepted it with a slight bow and withdrew from the suite, closing the door quietly behind him.
For three brief seconds the penthouse was silent.
Then Takoda pressed closer against Dakota's side like a small, determined shadow. Dakota looked down at the girl curled into her arm, then across the table at Kade, then back at Takoda again. A long sigh escaped her.
"Neither of you plans on moving, do you?"
"No."
"Not really."
The perfectly synchronized answer made Dakota stare. Takoda dissolved into bright laughter. Even Kade's expression softened, the faintest shift at the corner of his mouth that was almost a smile.
Dakota pointed between them, half-exasperated, half-amused. "This family is hopeless."
Takoda looked positively delighted by the declaration.
