There were only three top-tier Treasure Chests in the entire island nation of Japan. Two of them belonged to Aleister Crowley and Aiwass.
However, these two specific chests were practically impossible to obtain because the System required him to physically touch the Treasure Chest icon to trigger the unlocking conditions.
He had already encountered Aleister's chest inside the Windowless Building. Unfortunately, the icon hovered inside Aleister's giant life-support tube—a reinforced cylinder of unidentifiable origin that Yuuya couldn't break through right now. Furthermore, that tube was obviously designed to suppress anomalous powers, and the space inside seemed to occupy a completely different mathematical dimension.
As for Aiwass, that chest was even more impossible. He couldn't physically touch Aiwass at all; his hand would simply pass through the phantom. The angel was essentially an AIM thought-entity, acting as a highly advanced, intangible 3D projection in the physical world.
Yuuya put his hands in his pockets and looked around the normal streets of Tokyo. Although there were tall commercial buildings, the city still looked quite ordinary and somewhat dated compared to the futuristic utopia of Academy City. There were even low-hanging telephone poles and exposed power lines in some places.
'Speaking of which, the abilities I have right now are either anomalously strong or, at their base, Level 4s. I was only able to forcefully upgrade them to the Level 5 tier by leveraging my massively enhanced computing ability,' Yuuya muttered to himself.
He had just acquired Vector Manipulation and done a little preliminary calculation. He found that by dedicating exactly half of his total processing power, he could manually sustain the 'Full-Body Reflection' shield. For Suzushina Yuriko, that calculation was so deeply ingrained it was a passive, subconscious activation.
The difference between Level 5 and Level 4 was quite significant, mainly in terms of pure quality. A Level 5's improvement was achieved through quantitative changes leading to a qualitative paradigm shift, even if the base mathematical formula was exactly the same as a Level 4's.
The stronger the brain's computing power, the more numerous and complex the formulas could be. Yuuya's method of violently stacking calculation formulas on top of each other was just the most basic, brute-force application of the Multi-Skill system.
'Now, let's establish the operational parameters of my own vectors. Fortunately, I already memorized a lot of energy parameters before this.'
Yuuya closed his eyes for a microsecond. He established the complex formulas for physical parameters such as kinetic energy, potential energy, atmospheric air resistance, electrical current, and voltage in his mind.
Vector Manipulation required these formulas to be actively established in the brain's Personal Reality before the power could be used; otherwise, the user wouldn't even know the basic parameters of the energy they were trying to redirect, resulting in a misfire.
After the formulas were established, Yuuya opened his eyes. He could suddenly and clearly perceive the invisible vector lines of various energies shifting around him. The most obvious and terrifying vector lines were the crushing gravity and the massive rotational kinetic energy of the Earth spinning beneath his feet. The sheer scale of it was an exaggerated, mind-bending explosion of math.
He gently moved a single vector line beneath the sole of his shoe.
Crack—
A tiny, spiderweb-like fissure instantly spread half a meter outward from the center of his foot, shattering the pavement.
'Amazing!' Yuuya's eyes lit up. With just a light, focused flick of a vector, he could easily generate the destructive power of a Level 3. At full power, he could influence other vectors by manipulating a primary one, causing a chain reaction that would expand infinitely and create terrifying destructive force.
However, the larger the scope of the physical impact, the exponentially higher the computational load on his brain.
'It looks like I've reached about a quarter of Suzushina Yuriko's maximum output,' Yuuya stroked his chin, analyzing his new limits.
Even a quarter of the Number One's level was vastly stronger than most other Level 5s. After all, Yuriko was canonically capable of taking on a coordinated team of the other Level 5s entirely by herself.
'Let's adjust my own gravity parameters relative to the Earth.'
Yuuya altered his personal gravity vector. Instantly, his body became incredibly light. With a gentle tap against the cracked pavement, he floated up into the air like a helium balloon.
"Wow—!"
The normal Tokyo pedestrians who saw this scene stopped and exclaimed in surprise, pointing up at him.
"A superpowered kid! Is he a student from Academy City?!"
"Whoa, that's amazing! He's flying!"
"My niece goes to Academy City, but I've never seen anything like this!"
In Tokyo, everyone knew the name 'Academy City'. However, the city had incredibly strict border checkpoints. It was extremely difficult to enter unless you were a student's parent or a contractor with high-level clearance. To the ordinary citizens of the outside world, Espers were still very mysterious, almost mythical beings.
'Finally, I have the ability to fly properly,' Yuuya grinned with great pleasure. He used Vector Manipulation to control the atmospheric vectors his palms touched, accelerating the airflow to create a localized whirlwind that propelled him higher into the sky.
'But this place is a bit too high-profile to test things.' Yuuya used his Spatial Movement and vanished from the Tokyo skyline instantly.
...
Even though it wasn't quite lunchtime yet, the food streets in Tokyo were already filled with the heavy, mouth-watering aroma of freshly cooked meals. Even pedestrians who weren't hungry would be tempted to buy a snack just by smelling the wonderful scent wafting from the stalls.
An hour earlier, an incredibly hungry customer had arrived here wanting to eat. But because she was completely penniless, and absolutely no kind person was willing to help her, she could only pitifully drape herself over a small, public rest table, gazing longingly at the delicious food displayed behind a restaurant's glass window.
Grrrrrr...
"I'm so hungry... I only ate a piece of stale bread that a passerby didn't want for dinner last night... and my stomach is completely empty now. Waaah~ It smells so good! I really want to eat something!"
The girl, her stomach growling violently, reached out with both hands to paw futilely at the shop window. A thin trail of drool dripped from the corner of her mouth. She looked like she desperately wanted to eat the glass itself, but had been starving for so long that she felt entirely powerless.
The girl's pathetic actions caused passing pedestrians to glance at her, only to indifferently walk away.
It wasn't that the girl wasn't cute; on the contrary, she had silky, long silver hair, paper-white skin, and large, vibrant green eyes. She looked exactly like a beautiful porcelain doll, naturally evoking a strong desire to protect her.
She was wearing a pure white monastic habit, intricately embroidered with gold thread on every hem and corner, making it look more like an ultra-luxurious, custom-made dress than a nun's uniform. It was the ultimate magical defense: the Walking Church.
Yet, even though the girl was undeniably adorable, she still didn't receive any help from the bustling Tokyo crowd. Unless it was a perverted old man, no ordinary citizen wanted to approach a strange, foreign girl dressed in cosplay who was acting crazy by herself. It practically screamed 'trouble.'
If a good Samaritan approached her and was mistakenly accused of being a creep, they would suffer absolute social death. Therefore, the girl's first impression of Japan was that everyone here was incredibly cold and indifferent.
"Ah, great Heavenly Father, please bless your humble believer with a feast," the lovely nun prayed, pressing her hands together. She radiated absolute piety.
Grrrrrr!
But her violently rumbling stomach instantly ruined the holy image, and she slumped weakly back onto the small table, defeated by biology.
"Waaaaah~ I'm so hungry!" Index bit her thumbnail. Her big, watery green eyes stared at the shop window like an abandoned kitten looking at food it couldn't reach.
"Oh? Is a lovely nun like yourself in trouble? Do you need some help?"
A gentle, yet slightly frivolous voice suddenly called out from right behind her.
