Chapter 90 - Chapter 90: Fellow Daoist Ling Xiao is Truly Peerless

Nuwa left behind two Spirit Treasures as a token of apology and departed from the Taiyin Star, hurrying back to begin her work on the Demon Script.

Behind her, the expressions of the Moon Palace Fairies were unsightly, shifting through a turbulent cycle of shadows. Anger, resentment, and humiliated rage flickered across their features like a complex fan chart of emotions.

Their hearts were tied in a thousand knots, feeling as though a jar containing the five bitter flavors had been overturned in their souls.

"Sister... is it because Ling Xiao believes our cultivation is too weak that he despises us?"

Chang Xi asked with a bitter bluntness, her face etched with sorrow.

"The Moon and the Sun are not in balance. He is so much more powerful than we are that there can be no true harmony of Yin and Yang!"

She spoke loudly, searching for the fault within herself. She convinced herself that this disparity was the sole reason Ling Xiao was unwilling to validate the Heavenly Marriage with her.

"Sister, do not belittle yourself. Your heart is in disarray."

Xi He spoke calmly, having finally suppressed her own turbulent emotions. The poise of an elder sister remained unshaken.

"If he is unwilling, so be it. Why must you search for the cause within your own person?"

"If there is truly blame to be assigned, it belongs to Nuwa. She gave you a promise that she failed to fulfill, leaving you with nothing but a hollow joy."

Though her own heart was filled with a mixture of fury and irritation, a large portion of that resentment was directed at Nuwa. Nuwa had painted a beautiful picture only to leave them with empty hands.

Was this not playing them for fools?

"I..." Chang Xi felt a blockage in her chest, unable to find the words. The sheer drop from her expectations had stripped her of her reason.

"I am returning to my seclusion."

"Since you believe your cultivation is too low, then work with all your might to prove your worth!"

Xi He spoke in a low, cold tone. As the words fell, she turned and walked toward the Guanghan Palace.

Chang Xi watched her sister's retreating back, feeling an inexplicable chill radiating from her.

She knew that while her sister appeared undisturbed on the surface, her heart was anything but tranquil.

To put it another way, her sister's degree of concern regarding this rejection was likely far greater than her own.

Meanwhile, on the Sun Star.

Ling Xiao was in the process of "opening a mystery box." He was eager to see what kind of Law would manifest from the random Law fragment rewarded by the System.

He sank his Divine Thought into the fragment, focusing his mind on the comprehension. Instantly, he felt a massive, surging force of life, lush and verdant.

The green energy of the Law spread across his perception like a vast field, imbuing all things with the spark of vitality.

"The Law of Wood..."

Upon sensing the nature of the Law, Ling Xiao felt a pang of slight disappointment. He had hoped for a top-tier Law; he hadn't expected the relatively mundane Law of Wood.

However, there was a silver lining. The Law of Wood was one of the fundamental Five Elements Laws. He currently possessed the Laws of Earth, Fire, and Water. As long as he could comprehend the Law of Metal, his mastery of the Five Elements Laws would be within reach.

With this thought, Ling Xiao began to absorb the fragment.

Elsewhere.

Nuwa returned to the Hundred Thousand Great Mountains. Fuxi, seeing the look of joy on his sister's face and her seemingly excellent mood, could not restrain himself from asking.

"Sister, was the matter of the Heavenly Marriage successful?"

In that moment, the pressure on his heart seemed to lighten considerably. If the Heavenly Marriage were concluded, his sister would enjoy a boundless flow of Karma.

As she herself had suggested, it might even allow her to Attain Sainthood.

Under Fuxi's expectant gaze, Nuwa slowly shook her head. "The Heavenly Marriage has collapsed. The Sun Star God is unwilling to enter the union."

She spoke with a smile, which left Fuxi utterly bewildered. How could she be so cheerful about a failure? He wondered if the rejection had caused her to lose her mind.

"Sister, do not take it too hard. If the Heavenly Marriage is gone, then it is gone. We shall find another path," Fuxi consoled her, the pressure on his heart returning instantly. He felt the future of the Yao Race growing dim and hopeless.

"Brother, how did you know there was another path?" Nuwa asked with a beaming smile.

This completely threw Fuxi off. "Sister, there truly is one? Are you quite alright?"

"Of course I am fine. Although Fellow Daoist Ling Xiao rejected the Heavenly Marriage, he provided me with a different inspiration—one that holds a great Opportunity and massive Karma," Nuwa announced, her eyes flashing with a stirring confidence.

"There is such a thing?" Fuxi stood up in surprise. "Quickly, sister, tell me everything!"

Nuwa nodded and, without concealment, recounted the entire conversation in detail.

Fuxi fell into a brief silence after hearing the account, his heart feeling a microscopic trace of envy.

The two goddesses of the Moon had been willing to marry Ling Xiao together, yet he had actually refused.

What was even more unexpected was his proposal regarding the creation of a Demon Script.

Fuxi performed a quick mental deduction and realized the feasibility of the plan. It was indeed a monumental Opportunity and a source of vast Karma.

In fact, this was not merely Karma for Nuwa; it carried immense benefits for the entire Yao Race.

In the current Yao Race, the older "Great Yao" were born with Innate spiritual light and natural Divine Abilities, allowing them to cultivate on their own.

However, after tens of thousands of years of reproduction, a distinction between Innate and Acquired Yao had emerged. Compared to the Innate generation, the Acquired Yao were significantly weaker; their Divine Abilities and Spells had to be passed down through oral tradition from their ancestors.

If an ancestor met with an accidental death before the knowledge was shared, that branch of the Yao Race would effectively lose its Legacy. They would lose the chance to grow through cultivation and would eventually lose their sentience, regressing into savage beasts that knew only how to eat and drink blood.

At such a crossroads, a written "Demon Script" to record the Yao Race Legacy became a matter of vital importance.

"Fellow Daoist Ling Xiao's method of the Demon Script is truly brilliant. This can solve the fundamental problem of the Yao Race Legacy for generations to come."

"I did not expect that Fellow Daoist Ling Xiao, despite not being a member of the Yao Race, would be the one to identify our most deep-seated flaw."

Fuxi sighed in admiration. Through Nuwa's explanation, he grasped the sheer weight of the Demon Script's importance.

This Opportunity and Karma would not only benefit Nuwa; countless members of the Yao Race would be empowered by it.

In terms of the final result, this was far superior to validating the Heavenly Marriage.

The marriage would have been Nuwa's personal Opportunity, but the Demon Script was a Great Opportunity for the entire Yao civilization.

"Indeed. Ling Xiao's concept for the Demon Script is nothing short of extraordinary!"

Nuwa nodded, her voice full of appreciative praise.

"It seems Fellow Daoist Ling Xiao still holds our Yao Race in his heart!" Fuxi exclaimed. Then, he turned back to Nuwa and asked, "Sister, did you not take the chance to invite Fellow Daoist Ling Xiao to officially join our Yao Race?"

He felt that Ling Xiao was likely inclined to join the Yao, and simply lacked the proper opening.

Hearing this, a flicker of regret crossed Nuwa's face. "I was so consumed by the implications of the Demon Script at the time that the invitation completely slipped my mind."

Fuxi looked disappointed but said, "No matter. If the chance was missed, it means the heavenly timing was not yet right. We shall ask another time."

"The priority now is to perfect the Demon Script."

This matter was of supreme importance to their race and could not be delayed for a single heartbeat.

"Wait, Fellow Daoist Ling Xiao mentioned that if I have any uncertainties regarding the Demon Script, I should consult Kunpeng. I still do not quite grasp the intent behind that suggestion."

Nuwa suddenly recalled the instruction, still confused as to why Ling Xiao had directed her toward Kunpeng.

Fuxi paused, then suggested, "Perhaps Fellow Daoist Ling Xiao believes that as a senior figure of our Yao Race, Kunpeng can offer some useful technical insights."

He spoke with a tone of certainty, unable to imagine any other reason.

"Then let us go and discuss this with Kunpeng," Nuwa said with a smile.

Immediately, the siblings set off toward Kunpeng's residence.
