I walked over, and Ashton pulled me down onto the bed beside him with ease, as if it was the most natural thing in the world. His hold carried that quiet, firm pull of a dominant presence, steady and certain. "I thought we were going to sleep in separate beds?" he murmured, his tone low but edged with something unreadable.
"Huh, you're right." I stood up without hesitation, my face blank. "Well, you have a good night's sleep then!"
I turned to leave, but his hand shot out and caught my arm before I could take another step. "Were your ancestors mules? Why are you so stubborn?" he complained, though there was more frustration than real anger in his voice.
