Chapter 97 - The Rebellion Comes to an End

"Damn Soifon and Aizen! Doing such hypocritical things!"

Kōga Kuchiki had thought his grand plan for revenge was about to be realized, but unexpectedly, two meddlesome fellows had burst in halfway through and ruined his good deed.

They had fled through the night with Senbonzakura, not finding a shred of security until they ran back to the side of Zangetsu, the mysterious man in the trench coat.

In contrast to the impotently furious Kōga, and Muramasa who wore a face full of guilt, Senbonzakura simply stared in the direction of the Kuchiki Clan manor, remaining silent.

"Have you already conquered the Seireitei?"

Zangetsu sat on a massive rock not far away, the hem of his black trench coat hanging down. The giant Zanpakutō stood by his side as he looked calmly at the wretched Kōga Kuchiki.

"Zangetsu!" Kōga Kuchiki took a few steps forward. "Just in time. We need your help. Those two guys, Soifon and Aizen, have interfered... We have to..."

"I refuse."

Zangetsu interrupted him, his voice devoid of ripples.

Kōga Kuchiki's expression froze on his face. "What?"

"I will not say my refusal a second time."

As the voice fell, Zangetsu turned around in a rather pretentious manner, leaving Kōga Kuchiki with a desolate view of his back.

At the same time, Kōga Kuchiki's face twisted with anger.

"Fine, fine..."

Kōga Kuchiki forcibly suppressed his rage and sneered, "Then we will stay here with you. When Soifon and the others catch up, the flames of war will naturally burn their way to you."

Zangetsu did not respond. He simply sat back down on the rock and closed his eyes, as if everything around him had nothing to do with him.

Just then, Muramasa's body suddenly shook, and his expression changed drastically.

Sensing something wrong with Muramasa, Kōga Kuchiki frowned. "What's wrong with you now?"

"Suzumebachi... Kyōka Suigetsu..." Muramasa's voice trembled with disbelief. "My connection with them... has been severed."

"What?!"

"Just now, I sensed that they have completely broken away from the materialization of Shikai." Muramasa's face was pale. "They have already... returned to the hands of Soifon and Aizen."

"You useless waste!"

Kōga Kuchiki flew into a rage, turning and slamming a vicious punch into Muramasa's face. The latter stumbled backward from the blow, falling to the ground with blood seeping from the corner of his mouth.

Just a split second before the next fist was about to land, three dark shadows rose silently from the shade of the great trees, causing Kōga Kuchiki's movements to pause. He turned his head to look at the three people who had appeared.

Haschwalth, Lille Barro, and Giselle Gewelle (Gigi).

Haschwalth's gaze first lingered on Zangetsu for a moment, and he nodded slightly in greeting.

Then, his gaze shifted to Kōga Kuchiki and Muramasa, his eyes instantly turning cold and contemptuous.

Gigi leaned in a few steps, tilting her head to stare at Zangetsu for a few seconds before suddenly clapping her hands excitedly. "Really! He looks so much like His Majesty when he was young!"

"Gigi."

Haschwalth warned coldly.

"Shut up."

Lille Barro scolded at the same time, the muzzle of his sniper rifle shifting slightly.

Hearing this, Gigi smiled mischievously and shrank back behind Haschwalth, though her eyes still glanced curiously at Zangetsu.

Haschwalth looked back at Kōga Kuchiki, but the politeness from before was gone from his tone:

"The Empire gave you so many chances, yet you did not know how to cherish them."

"It seems trash is trash in the end; you can't even handle this little matter."

Kōga Kuchiki's pupils constricted. He wanted to retort and defend himself, but a cold killing intent suddenly locked onto his heart...

Lille Barro raised his sniper rifle.

Without any aiming movement, he simply pulled the trigger casually.

The gunshot sounded exceptionally ear-piercing in the silent suburbs of Rukongai.

Kōga Kuchiki hadn't even reacted yet. He looked down at his chest, where a large hole seemed to have opened up, through which the forest behind him could be seen.

Then, he fell straight backward, smashing heavily onto the ground.

"Kōga!"

Muramasa screamed and tried to rush over, but Haschwalth drew the broadsword at his waist and pinned Muramasa's foot to the ground with a single strike, immobilizing him on the spot.

"Do it while it's warm, Gigi."

Lille Barro blew on his still-smoking sniper rifle, turning to urge her on.

"Aye, aye! Coming now!"

Gigi skipped over to Kōga Kuchiki's corpse and squatted down to poke it.

Then, she extended her right hand, condensing a slender arrow of Quincy power at her fingertip, and gently sliced open the palm of her left hand.

Blood welled up and dripped down.

Gradually, Kōga Kuchiki's skin acted like a thirsty sponge, absorbing the blood Gigi sprinkled on his body.

Kōga Kuchiki's skin slowly turned dull and dark. His eyelids trembled slightly a few times before opening again.

Having finished all this, Gigi withdrew her hand. Kōga Kuchiki stiffly sat up, moving like a marionette.

"Ok~~ My mission is complete, Haschwalth!"

Gigi ran back to the Quincy formation with a grin, smiling mischievously at Muramasa, who was pinned by Haschwalth.

Kōga Kuchiki, who had already become a zombie, slowly raised his hand and made a grasping motion toward Muramasa.

Hum—

Muramasa's figure suddenly distorted, turning into a streak of purple light that flew uncontrollably back into the Zanpakutō at Kōga Kuchiki's waist.

"The target is the Seireitei. Attack, Kōga Kuchiki!"

Following Gigi's hand pointing toward the high walls in the distance, the zombified Kōga Kuchiki bent his knees slightly, then leaped violently into the sky.

At this time, Haschwalth finally opened a shadow portal leading to the Empire and looked at Zangetsu sitting on the large rock:

"Will you return to the Empire with us?"

Zangetsu shook his head. "I will not go. I cannot converse with him."

Haschwalth did not insist, merely bowing again. "Then... I wish you good luck."

In the blink of an eye, the three Quincies from the Empire silently slipped into the shadows and vanished.

...

Kōga Kuchiki's Spiritual Pressure was undisguised. Soifon and Aizen quickly arrived at his location, only to see Kōga Kuchiki wantonly destroying the great gate of the Seireitei, looking as if he had lost his reason.

Sōsuke Aizen stepped forward and unleashed a blade of sword pressure. The majestic Spiritual Pressure cut a deep, bone-exposing wound on Kōga Kuchiki's body, but the wound did not bleed; only dull, dark muscle tissue writhed slightly.

"This is..." Aizen narrowed his eyes slightly. "A corpse?"

Soifon did not answer. She simply narrowed her eyes to observe all this, having a probable answer in her heart.

Was an ability used on him by the people of the Wandenreich? Is it Gigi?

At the same time, centering on the Department of Research and Development, a sound wave resounded throughout the entire Seireitei.

In an instant, countless rays of light of various colors streaked across the night sky like meteors, subsequently sinking into the Zanpakutō at the waists of every Shinigami who had mastered Shikai.

At the First Division barracks, the main gate that had been tightly closed for a whole day finally opened slowly.

The Captain-Commander, leaning on his cane, stepped out of the barracks one step at a time, his gaze fixed on the direction where Kōga Kuchiki's Spiritual Pressure had erupted.

Close behind him, the Spiritual Pressures of various Captains surged, converging toward that location at an astonishing speed.

Because time was tight, Soifon wiped her left hand across her right hand, creating a golden light. A small blade, like a bee's stinger, appeared at her fingertip.

"Suzumebachi."

The next moment, Soifon arrived in front of Kōga Kuchiki. Two overlapping black Hornet's Crests emerged on his chest.

Soifon withdrew her hand, and the blade of her Shikai reverted to a standard Asauchi.

She did not look at Kōga Kuchiki again. The instant she turned around, Kōga Kuchiki's body began to disintegrate from the chest outward, like a sand sculpture scattered by the wind.

Tap, tap, tap.

Footsteps came from all directions.

Captain-Commander Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto was the first to arrive. Close behind him were Shunsui Kyōraku, Jūshirō Ukitake, Unohana Retsu, Byakuya Kuchiki, Zaraki Kenpachi, Tōshirō... almost all the Captains and Vice-Captains of the divisions were present.

Everyone's gaze was focused on Soifon and Aizen.

Shunsui Kyōraku, following behind the Captain-Commander, spoke:

"Although we are very grateful to Captain Soifon and Captain Aizen for helping us solve this trouble, we must still ask you two to stay as well."
