Elliot's gaze naturally drifted toward the stage while Cecilia continued singing to him with obvious affection. The moment I noticed it, irritation flared inside me without warning.
Before I could stop myself, I dug my nails sharply into the back of his hand beneath the table.
Elliot immediately turned toward me with amusement flickering in his dark eyes, but I deliberately kept my expression calm and innocent, pretending nothing had happened at all.
Then I scratched him a second time.
Harder.
He silently endured it while staring at me helplessly.
What a cruel woman, his expression practically said. She can openly admire other men, but I'm not even allowed to glance at another woman?
Meanwhile, I maintained a perfectly composed face as though I had done absolutely nothing wrong. Only the faint smile tugging at the corners of my lips betrayed me.
Underneath the table, however, fresh red scratch marks had already appeared across the back of Elliot's hand.
